Excellent analysis. It’s not much. Not to mention that for the majority of the production they have shortened the field to between the 35 yard lines and nothing beyond the back hash line. I’m almost to the point of suggesting we move it all to the gym floor, including the gymnastics.

Has Audience Culture Changed?
Jim Schehr replied to smr17's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Many of these productions don't translate or communicate well to the audience. It is unfortunate that the activity has become monkey see monkey do. Very few come up with a creative, original idea. My heart goes out to marching members - they're only a reflection of what was put in front of and/or on them. Truth be told, if I never see some of these productions again this season, I won't feel like I missed anything. For me it's about the music and marching and the quality of performance. I miss the high velocity intricate marching drills which are now replaced with jumping, hopping, skipping, running, posing, twirling, laying down, ballet, dancing, and now gymnastic tumbling, not to mention the pushing, pulling, dragging, lifting, climbing, standing and riding of props. Only a few corps have the prop thingie down - most props are horribly made and grossly underutilzed. My polite applause at the end of a performance is not always for the production but instead for the marching members trying to do the best with what they were given, and a reason to stretch my legs.- 262 replies

Yeah can’t figure out why either. Change is not always positive. If it’s not broken don’t try to fix it. -

If it was about what I would like to see, I would love to see Blooo, SCV and BAC. But it’s obviously not about what I like. BD and Crown reputations are holding both up, but neither production are or is one of their top five best productions. I find it shockingly predictable where they continue to place considering the parity there is in talent in the top six. -
Yes yes yes. Break some instruments too.

Not sure that’s a favorable position as it use to be when compared to the corps going on before them. -

I wouldn’t suggest you write Boston off. Believe their show could jump up a corps or two. But that’s just me. Not a fan of Crown this season as in past seasons. -

I strongly disagree with that statement. SCV yes - BD seriously doubt it. -

Make room for Boston because here they come. -

Take away the soloist and there isn’t much left on the bar. -

I’m tired of seeing BD’s hairography. As tired as their bbop they have been doing for the last four years. -

Three things are certain. Someone has to win. Someone has to come in last. And people will continue to argue about the outcome until death. -

I agree! I like the improvements or to be DCP politically correct (layering) LOL! Anyway - the ending is wonderful. Blooo had a very good run and the crowd showed their approval throughout the production. That works for me. -
A Look Back at 1971-1972
Jim Schehr replied to mkcarlson's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Kiltie junior had beat St. Rita’s Brassman by 3.5 points at 72’ World Open and never understood why they didn’t go to DCI. They were 2nd in WO prelims and finals.
