Makes sense not only a cap but revenue sharing with funds over the cap. Would shuffle corps in & out of the top twelve. Would also challenge the staffs so their peer rating isn't predicated on fishing only where the smartest and most talented schools of fish swim each year.

It was only a thought. Doubt seriously if it would ever be considered.

I don't disagree with you but don't think capping anyone, which was never done changes when a MM wants to be somewhere. But I get what you are saying.

As far as local membership, If they were doing so well why did it drop, why did corps go under. and FYI I was there Local everything changed MANY local groups do not exist today, support is not the same, the member is totally not the same. It's a different world and the 70s barely worked then they would never work today.

I’m not here to debate any issues on this form, so speak to the mirror.

The cost of touring is currently affecting the activity participant organizations. If the activity loses another organization or two so be it, but eventually there will be 12 or 10 or 7. It’s not sustainable.

you can cut BDs budget down to anyones and they will still succeed. Not even a question. AS far as geographic restrictions. If we did that today , there would be even less corps. If any

FYI - I wasn’t talking about any specific organizations budget. However a budget cap may allow for parity. Either way the cost of touring is a burden that few can continue to afford. It’s unsustainable at its current level. 1.6 to 1.8 million is a hard nut to crack each year and it looks like the price of meat will continue to increase.

FYI the activity was just fine with local geographic membership, a lot more corps too. But I guess you would have had to been there to know.

Ahhhh, no. IIRC, last season Cincinnati Tradition had their DCA appearances rained out and or cancelled through no fault of their own and went on first at prelims by default. They did get numbers at some DCI contests which I don't believe played into the seeding. Jim or Terri Schler would know the precise details.

The DCI numbers generally tend to run lower then what a DCA panel would give for that performance. How much lower is a matter of discussion here. :satisfied:

As long as the corps is being judged on DCA sheets at a DCI sanctioned contest, then that score can be used for prelims seeding if you have not received a score from a DCA sanctioned contest.

The point is DCI scores don't translate directly to DCA and weeknight shows by DCA corps are never an accurate reflection of what the corps will be like in DCA competition.

I believe CT DCI scores have been of great value considering the line-ups of DCI corps and International corps (Jubal) we perform with. Scores are opinions and opinions change.

CT DCI season scores: Mason 65.550, Alexandria 62.950, White Lake 67.750, Centerville 71.350

    DCA score: Peckville 72.150

No more shows until BillsPort, lot of rehearsal between then and now. Lot of work to do to get better. CT expects to be on first in DCA Prelims, it's nothing new, we're always first on.

I only heard Tradition from behind the stadium. From there, they sounded good, and it's nice to see they got a boost in score from the previous night.

Thanks! We had our best run of the weekend mini tour. Lots of work got done and the organization handled the tour well.

No more performances until DCA prelims. The rehearsal schedule is in place to integrate some minor changes and planned layering. Plus a few prop surprises.

Back to work and getting better.

I tried to count the sizes of the different DCA corps at both shows today and this is what I got (corrections welcome):

    77 -- Cincinnati Tradition: 35 brass, 21 battery (8/4/5/4), 13 pit, 13 guard

CT - 36 brass: all brass holes are filled. 40 brass - three tubas, and a trumpet couldn’t make the trip. There were four guard that didn’t make the trip too.

Incredible experience for the CT organization in their first ever DCA Open Class competition. The Peckville audience was very genuine with their applause, the judges critique was excellent as well as the show venue, and a wonderfully organized and well run Regional show event. We’re on our way to White Lake MI.

Tomorrow is another day for the organization to get better.

Thanks to DCA and all the participating corps who made this show a success.

I'm talking about show design, and more significantly, survival of the corps itself

IMO the pursuit to imitate has caused this organization to become less confident in their own abilities to be in the forefront. With any corporation, the management rarely views themselves as part of or the problem. Usually centers around complacency. If you change nothing, nothing's going to change. It doesn't mean you open the doors and sweep everything and everyone out. The organization should find common ground and do strategic planning. Amazing what happens when you lock 12 people in a room for a few days and do strategic planning.

I have no objections to opinions like these--some of which I agree with--and I don't want to pick on your post in particular, but I would like to request that people be more specific, as often as possible. Whose jumping don't you like? Which show ought to have more drill? Are there shows that do have more drill? Which ones? Are they being underscored? Would the audience generally agree with you or do they prefer what they see?

    No
