  1. Anyone have a single super premium ticket for sale? Good ones have been sold out for a while. I just need one. In the meantime, who's going and what are you most looking forward to?
  2. I'm not a big fan of the ballad amplification. Having said that, I love the message. The song title is Grow 'till Tall. When the corps faces the back of the field, they are looking into a mirror. As young adults, they don't always see themselves as others do. They tend to see their weaknesses. The corps playing to the back of the field while hearing the music amplified out front is meant to represent this. What we all see is not always accurate. In this case what we see and hear are different. As they turn around at the very end of the ballad, things become more clear with the climax being the guard member who is lifted by those around her as she "grows till tall"
  3. "Everybody deserves a trophy" crowd. Afraid of debate and negativity. How dare we point out the flaws in DCI.
  4. It's not the placement snaxfreq, it's the score that I mostly have issue with. In terms of placement, BD should be behind SCV, BC, CC, and Cavs this year. The sloppy bumblebee piece and the standstill drill is not impressive to me. They do have a nice ballad. I may use that to fall asleep to tonight. Sorry that hurts your feelings.
  5. I actually agree with you on the ballad comments. Having said that, BD synth and overall use of speakers is extreme. It's the only corps whose electronics distort my speakers when watching on flo.
  6. SCV does have a great show this year. They deserve to be in the spot they are in. BD and CC do not. In my opinion.
  7. I couldn't agree more. In fact, I have said the same thing. 5 yrs from now, no one will remember this years BD show in particular. Many will remember BC. I recently went to an open class competition. I really enjoyed it. Those corps still work hard for their scores instead of relying on their name.
  8. I have participated and have been following drum corps for a very long time. I have adopted the changes over the years with open arms. I love most of those changes and have no wish to turning the clock back. I start with these points because I know some punk will accuse me of being old school or for not understanding modern drum corps. Rest assured I understand it quite well and I am very familiar with the judging sheets and scoring process. Having said that, it is a shame what the judges are doing to BC this year. I have watched closely all season and have seen the bias that is so obvious. It appears to me the judges have a grudge of some sort against them. Is it the guard outfits? I read the corps changed to longer shorts due to complaints about a little butt cheek or two showing. Is it because the judges believe it is destiny for BD and SCV to be fighting it out during their anniversaries? Maybe it is because they don't have enough pretty colors. I noticed BD has pink in their uniforms. That certainly must be worth an extra 3 or 4 points in visual. It apparently outweighs the extreme drill design BC is marching. Unfortunately, the scores are simply the opinion of a select few judges. They are human and have biases. This years "collective thought" appears to be against the Bluecoats. That truly is a shame given the energy and talent this corps has. The message the judges are sending to all: don't do anything risky, keep your drill simple and clean, focus on having a strong palette of color choices and color guard, both have more impact on your overall score then drill, brass, or percussion. Fast is old school. March slowly and precisely. When playing, be sure it is loud and try to stand still while doing so. If you are going to march at a fast tempo, be sure to do it while not playing. And finally, never ever make the young women in the guard where something feminine. Modern women are not supposed to be feminine or sexy.
  9. I don't hate BD. Loved them for many years including 2014 show. I hate the fact they don't have a drill this year. Any other corps would be pentalized accordingly for putting this drill on the field.
  10. Uh. It's a fact they don't march. Very little anyway. Especially compared to the other top corps, including open class corps
  11. I'm not complaining. Just stating the truth. I don't really care what the judges think. I'm just stating a fact. They don't move. In my opinion, that makes them less entertaining and less talented. They are a big concert band on a football field
  12. I'm back. Cavs show still awesome. Bluecoats unbelievable.
  13. I like CC brass sound but do not like the show. Boring. The vocalist might be the dumbest idea ever. Who does that when you have a brass that good.
  14. I played percussion. I have watched both shows many times. BC and SCV are better corps, better show design, better percussion, better drill, better GE, better Visual. BD deserved to win in 2014. They didn't deserve to win in 2015 or this year. 3,5,10 years from now, no one will remember this BD show. Most people who respond the way you did are from the west coast. Let's hope the judges from the Midwest will see things differently. My bet is SCV will win finals. While I prefer BC, I can't deny SCV show design and performance is excellent. BD show is something slightly better then a high school band show design.
  15. I have been following drum corp for a very long time and truly don't understand some of the scoring this year. BD wining Visual and GE is a bit confusing. Their Park and Bark show has little to no GE and/or Visual. Their brass is very good and deserves to score well. Their color guard is also very good. If GE and Visual have become strictly an extension of color guard and pretty colors, prepare for little to no marching in the future. My advice to corps moving forward, stand still while playing, only march while playing slow tempo music, and play really loud. Also make sure the synth is turned up to 11. Don't forget to include pretty colors. If you truly want to impress the judges, throw in some singing that has the effect of finger nails scratching against an old fashion chalk board. SCV and BC should be leading the pack this year. While being progressive in their show designs, they continue to utilize those things that have always separated drum corps from bands. PS.....I don't hate BD as many of you might accuse me. I have always been a big BD fan. They have had great shows over the years. This year is not one of those. Members are great, staff and judging is where my disappointment originates.
