  1. Spoke with Ken Norman a little while ago regarding another project he has in mind for the Midwest. I also asked if he could speak this Alumni Organization up with some of his colleagues out there.
  2. If Lefty was pushing for 3 valves it was probably at the behest of Dreitzer. I know Dreitzer and Tru Crawford were always discussing whether there should be 2 valves (Tru's contention) and Dreitzer always said, "I don't care if the horn has 6 valves. What they both agreed on was that it should always be in the key of "G". Haven't looked lately but it is my understanding that the 8th & I &when Colonel "C" was still there) had signed a contract with Kanstul to keep supplying them with 2 valve horns for (I believe it was) 10 years.
  3. As Founder of the Pennsylvania Drum Corps Hall of Fame it would be my honor of seeing to it that the "Kid" be Inducted as an Honorary Member. I'm sure that upon my suggestion to our Selection Committee he would pass and would be Inducted with our next Class of Inductees this coming April and join the likes of Tom Peashey, Lefty Mayer and Vince Bruni. As I had explained to you in a personal message I had been considering Bobby for Induction for a couple of years now but knew of his desire not to be so honored until his passing. I will need a summary of his accomplishments in the form of a nomination application though. If you could be so kind as to submit one to me I'll make sure that it taken care of. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation in this, I am,
  4. I jump back and forth. You just posted one of his cartoons on facebook a little while ago.
  5. Mr. Cook's influence on ALL areas of the activity have been simply amazing. And, believe it or not, that influence has even been felt in the Alumni genre. Not just with the Star United Alumni Corps but ALL Alumni Corps. Cabs, Skyliners, Reilly, Archie to name just a few. If you can think of an Alumni Corps there is probably someone performing in that Corps that possibly owes his very life to Mr. Cook. It was Mr. Cook's Medical Technology Company that developed the stent, that little metal object that looks like (for those of us old enough to remember that simple little toy) "Chinese Handcuffs" and helps keep veins unclogged. I know that I myself have 3 of these objects and I know of some people performing today with as many as 8 stent implants. His influence, not just in our activity but, to all humanity, I think, can be compared to the invention of the wheel. May God Rest His Soul.
  6. Believe me they were. And for sure they cannot be placed youtube. I know I'd sue. I know Ray Williamson would.
  7. Didn't know that but yes you are correct. The stage in CVHS was at most 2/3rds the size of the Forum. Have you been to York Suburban HS? Bill Toomey told me it's a very good facility.
  8. If the quality of the acoustics is similar to those of Cumberland Valley HS, where the first SIB was held, it should be just fine. I had conversations with Bob Zarfoss and Brian Moul at the Dixie Stinger and the PaDCHOF is 99.9% sure the Breakfast will take place on April 15th, the Sunday morning following the show. I know they do want us there. I was told that (at the time of the Dixie Stinger) they are persuing getting hotels in the area to get lower room rates, and I would thing those rates might be lower then those in the HBG area. I also think that the area would cooperate as it would really help their economy. And if this show does well next year and both the Drum Corps fanbase and it's embraced by the local gentry could there be a Mini Corps show in the offing for Saturday morning? Or perhaps a I&E contest? Things to ponder. So next year let's all make a concerted effort to patronize this new show. Travelwise it is very convenient to the Baltimore and Philly area and not that much further from the NYC area as well. On another note Andy, this past Saturday someone wearing a Cabs jacket said to me in the lobby just outside the elevators that the Cabs were taking over the SIB weekend. Said it's already been approved by your directors. It was gonna take place at Bergenfield H.S. Now there is a truly REDICULOUS rumor. I tried to tell him the slot has already been filled by another show but he insisted. Oh well, another rumor coming out of the east.
  9. Hi Ed, Just to let you know I got my new Who'er badge and it looks great. Thanks. Yes, the Buccaneer Alums are so much better then they were just a few years ago. And the Hanover Lancers are the "Best kept secret in Pennsylvania Drum Corps". Bob Zarfoss from the USAF Drum Corps when it was under the baton of Tru Crawford back in the 50s & 60s. I'm sure they will handle their new show quite well.
  10. Again your knowledge is greatly appreciated. So CYO Nationals and Mission Drums, although being held at the same Stadium for a number of years, were obviously 2 separate shows. Looking forward to seeing you again this weekend. However I refuse to sit to watch Cabs stage rehearsal this time. I can't afford Curt and George blowing double high As & Bs in my face anymore. Thet broke my bluetooth last week in Dundalk.
  11. Okay, Thanks for the clarification Andy. I knew the Boston Archdiocese had something to do with it, just thought it was the CYO. When and where was the CYO Nationals held?
  12. If memory serves, the contest was sponsored by the CYO of the Boston area. I think some of the proceeds went to Catholic Missions over seas. I remember performing there back in the 60s at Boston College in Newton, Mass, just outside Boston proper. It was a very popular, well attended show back in the day.
