1981 27th Lancers Finally!
George82 replied to RudyWiedoeft's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
The 1981 27th Lancers are such an underrated drum corps. They were so dominant during the first half of the season that summer. I think the only shows they lost were our show and DCI East Prelims the next day. They were awesome marchers with impeccable techique. In 82, Mark Sylvester never let us forget how good they were. My favorite part of the show was the giant arc from zero to zero during the hit in "Greatest Love of All". -
Gotta love you, Sam. You certainly are consistent

Um, no... It is something that has been discussed going back to the 80's and they felt the time was right to do it now. -
Shout out to the 1977 Garfield Cadets
George82 replied to Geneva's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
In my rookie season, alot of us had come from other drum corps who were dead or dying. Prior to rehearsals in the spring of 1981, we used to gather together and listen to recordings of Garfield Cadet corps from past years. Our favorite listen, 1977. "Primal Screan/Star Trek", "Blue Rondo ala Turk", "Pieces of Dreams" (w/Chris Trimblett), "Echano" w/Greg Cinzio, and "I Don't Know How To Love Him"...awesome stuff. We loved that show so much that we begged Jimmer to play "Pieces of Dreams" and that's how it became our closer that year. -

Also, there have been plenty of shows where DCA corps HAVE been allowed to set up recruiting tables. Just not at the larger USSBA sponsored events. So, the opportunity for exposure is still there, just not at the larger venues. -
Someone posted earlier about creating a DCA "Masters" Division whch I think could be a pretty neat idea. However, how would you set the judging criteria? Main concern would be the visual caption. Not many of today's "alumni" corps do a full visual show. What kind of standards should be set? How much movement is enough (remember "stop time")? What about contribution from the color guard, where do they fit in? Discuss...

He passed away 27 years ago. With all due respect, don't you think it's time to move on?

Whoa, Jeff. There you go again... George Hopkins DID NOT have a voice in DCA with the Sunrisers. During the corps' affiliation with YEA! Gary Williams was director and the corps had its own administrative team. The YEA! affiliation had more to do with daily operations of the drum corps. George Hopkins had nothing to do with the creative direction or philosophy of the corps at that time. None of our design team came from YEA! None of our show concepts came from YEA! Not one rule change proposal came from or was influenced by YEA! ONE TIME in the summer of '98 George Hopkins came and ran an ensemble rehearsal. Thankfully, it was the best rehearsal we had the entire summer! Trust me when I tell you that the failure of the Sunrisers to continue fieding a corps in the late 90's had everything to do with the Sunrisers. YEA! did all it could to support our efforts and bears no responsibility in the demise of the corps at that time. So in making your comment "didn't work out well", on what are you basing this? Where you there? I was... BTW, seems to me that we've had this same discussion in the past...even on ramd yet you continue to make the same claims which lack any basis whatsoever other than your own perception.

2011 Drum Corps Associates Alumni Spectacular
George82 replied to kevingamin's topic in Alumni Corps Discussions
It's called "Lombero" -
ok Jeff, let me see if I have this straight. Gary openly insults my corps by likening a prop that was used to a sh@thouse and comparing the show to a commercial for a feminine hygeine product. Yet I mention that it was a championship corps with the highest ever score and question what Gary has ever won equally rude and disrespectful, is that right? Sorry but I can't equate the two. I do not take Gary's comments lightly. Your take on this whole situation doesn't surprise me in the least either. If you don't like how I handled the situation, oh well, it is what it is. I don't have any apologies nor do I have any regrets. If you're going to make tasteless comments like that about my corps, you will hear it from me. Promise!
