This is a tough call.
BOA isn't that big of a deal out here in the East. We follow USSBA and TOB, and, to a lesser extent, NYSFBC. All 3 circuits have great programs. All 3 circuits top 5 programs are forces to be reckoned with and are the prides of their schools.
I've seen the 'BOA' ready schools in TOB and USSBA. I don't like the programs they put out. They're more artsy and abstract, which is something I don't like to see on a football field. Maybe that's the way BOA judging sheets are written, I don't know. But I see BOA, and I want to go to sleep, based on what I've seen out here. I've not seen the Grand Nationals, so my own sample is skewed regarding BOA. But, don't get me wrong, the kids are extremely talented, and good at what they do.
COULD they take on a Division I program? Maybe. IF, and only if, you leveled the playing field. If you cut down a top BOA to DCI levels, you might see them take out 18-21, but that's about it.
I also agree with those that state DCI drumlines would blow away high school drumlines. DCI drumlines are a whole separate universe.
We need bands and drum corps to coexist. It's the best of both worlds. :)
