  1. The Selden Cadets Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps is looking to fill openings in the brass and percussion sections. If you have ever played in a drum corps or band, come check us out. Experience is helpful but even if you haven't played in years, it doesn't matter we can get you back on track. The corps is self-supporting and we don't do parades. Music stands are welcome. The corps performs at several events during the year in the tri-state area. We also perform on Long Island at street fairs, and for the veterans and handicapped. Rehearsals are every Thursday night from 7PM to 9PM at The Clubhouse of Suffolk, 939 Johnson Avenue, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779. Our rehearsal facility is easily accessible from Long Island Expressway (Ocean Avenue exit) or Veterans Highway. We are also (3) traffic lights down from the Long Island Railroad Station going west on Johnson Avenue. We play music from all genres - drum corps, pop, classic, rock n roll and jazz. Come to one of our rehearsals - check us out, bring a friend and see what's shakin' in Ronkonkoma! Any questions, contact Carl Goodwin, Director: 631-698-4830 or Irene Allan, Business Manager: 631-418-6347.
  2. The Selden Cadets Alumni have been doing this for the past seven years. The corps no longer does parades and we also use music stands. We rehearse every Tlhursday night at The Clubhouse of Suffolk, 939 Johnson Avenue, Ronkonkoma, NY from 7 - 9 PM.
  3. To Big W, I too want to add my thanks to Doug DeSio's reply regarding the Selden Cadets playing of "The Lord's Prayer". This Sasso arrangement (that at our request was brought back for us by John Arietano) is a particular favorite of the corps and they take great pleasure in playing it because it is a direct connection to "old school" drum corps music. Just as Doug said, we play an eclectic assortment of music all of which is arranged for us by John "Screech" Arietano. We take great pleasure in playing everything from "old school drum corps", pops, classical, jazz and Broadway.....and just as Doug said...the audience appreciation is all the tribute that we need. We are glad that the alumni activity has allowed us to continue to do what we love to do.
  4. The Selden Cadets want to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Bob Glovna. Godspeed. Irene Allan Susiness Manager Selden Cadets Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps

  6. The "Selden Cadets Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps" wish to thank Phil Gentile, Joel Leson and the staff of the great Yankee Rebels Alumni for giving us the opportunity to perform for the first time at "The Dixie Stinger". :worthy:/> When we received the invitation to perform in the show we were honored and excited to be able to be a part of a great tradition in the drum corps activity. This day brought back some of our best memories of what "old time" drum corps was, and why we love this activity so much. Many of us got a chance to renew old friendships, make new friends and partake in the hospitality of the "Yankee Rebels" kitchen crew. All of the corps that performed in the show brought with them a piece of history and tradition that gave a sense of pride for what this activity represents. Great performances by all and we "The Selden Cadets" were thrilled to be a part of it. Irene
  7. The Selden Cadets are looking forward to their first appearance in this great show! See you all next Saturday! Irene Allan Business Manager
  8. The Selden Cadets Alumni want to thank the Bugler's Hall of Fame and St. Kevin's for hosting this show. Selden's day started off relatively uneventful until the bus engine decided to become a Saturn rocket somewhere in the middle of Rhode Island. The driver was able to safely get the coach to the side of the highway and have all of us evacuate. With fire extinguisher in hand, our newest drummer, John Sharpe put out the fire. The bus driver then allowed us all to get back on the bus and wait for another coach to come so that we could continue to our destination. True to drum corps ingenuity, in the three hours we had to wait for another coach to come from Boston to pick us up, three of our guys, Glenn Kubacki, Fred Tyra and Dave Abrams Googled a pizza place and set off through the woods. Almost an hour later they returned with six pizzas and cokes for the entire corps. Meantime, we turned lemons into lemonade and had a great time. Almost three hours later the coach arrived and we continued our journey to the show. We made it just in time. Anthony Convertito switched positions allowing Selden to take a breath, put on uniforms. We had a great time performing for a really appreciative audience that enthusiastically received our show. :thumbup:/> After the show, we got back on the Boston bus and the driver drove us to a Mac Donald's in Rhode Island where he had us off load our equipment in front of the building so he could get his coach back to Boston. We had to wait almost another two hours for a coach to come from New Jersey to pick us up!...Altogether, we on loaded and off loaded three coaches a total of eight times that day.....ah well....just another typical day in the life of some drum corps nuts! :doh:/>
  9. On behalf of the Selden Cadets Alumni both past and present, we want to offer our condolences and prayers to the Perrilloux family. Eric also taught Selden's drum line back in the day. He was legendary. May he rest in peace. Irene Allan Business Manager Selden Cadets Alumni

  11. The Selden Cadets Alumni want to thank the great Reading Bucaneer's for giving us the opportunity to perform at their show. We all had a great time and got the opportunity to see some old friends and meet some new ones! Thank you to the Big W for his great review and kind words....we much appreciated them Irene
  12. Yesterday was a truly great experience for those of us in the Selden Cadets Alumni. We were in the company of some of the living legends of drum corps and had the honor of having the great John Sasso (who was inducted into the Bugler's Hall of Fame later that evening) conduct us in "The Lord's Prayer" a beautiful arrangement he did for the "Sunrisers" many years ago that has become a constant part of our repetiorie for many years. Take a bow Selden for delivering one of your greatest performances to date. The addition of "I Will Follow Him" and the newest arrangement "Oh Mary Don't You Weep" were the highlights of an already great repetioire were greeted with standing ovations (as was our entire performance). Thank you to Anthony Convertito and the Bugler's Hall of Fame for putting together a great show and induction dinner. And....speaking of the dinner, the Selden Cadets Alumni want to thank John Sasso for honoring us by conducting the corps as they played "The Lord's Prayer" both at the show and the dinner. The alumni activity is all about honoring "the legends" both living and those that have passed on to a greater place. There is no greater way to do this than by supporting the shows that we are all in. All the corps and people that were a part of this show yesterday are truly great.
  13. Andy, Sorry to be so long responding to this inquiry. Give me a couple of days and I will get you as much info as I can about "Selden". We are the Selden Cadets Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps a/k/a the Selden "Golden Lancers" and The Selden Cadets. All are the proper name(s) for the corps. Also an excellent source of scores for the corps is on our alumni website. www.seldencadets@yahoo.com our webmaster Paul Auster also has compiled a list of the corps scores. His email address is on the website. Irene Allan Business Manager
  14. SAD NEWS The Selden Cadets Alumni want to let our drum corps friends know about the passing of our corps Director Carl Goodwin's father John. Our prayers and sympathies go to Carl and his family at this sad time. Irene Allan
  15. The Selden Cadets want to thank the Bugler's Hall of Fame and the great Reilly Raiders for a most enjoyable time yesterday. It was fun seeing our old friends and making some new ones!.....A really special moment came when Selden and The Vagabonds stood together at the end of the show to play "Fantasy", re-creating a moment from back in the early 60's when the two corps got together after a show out in the parking lot and played it. At the time Selden and Vagabonds had the same instructor who took one of our great fanfares and taught it to the Vagabonds. Fantasy Fanfare was arranged by the late Joe Calisto. A special thanks goes to Frank Neill for his kind hospitality to the corps from Lawn Guyland....lol.
