  1. Mod hat here… Please dial back the personal attacks against other posters. It is completely against DCP rules. Thanks.
  2. Garfield Cadets 1971 - “America, the Brave”…complete with printed libretto passed out in the stands. 1972 - “No More War”…with placemat sized 3-photo handout.
  3. Admin hat here... Please dial back the personal comments about other posters. Per the guidelines personal attacks are not permitted.
  4. Judging GE easily defined....the judge is evaluating the Effect of the show, but in a very General way. . . . . You're welcome!
  5. Reminded me of VFW Nats in Dallas in 1971. We (Cadets) were coming onto the field in the Cotton Bowl for prelims, and I overheard one employee tell another it was 135 on the field. That was the original old astroturf on concrete. We were in our wool unis.
  6. The title of a thread is indeed important, IMO. That is what my comment was about, esp when the OP made no comments at all in starting the thread. I made no value judgement about the qualifications of the person in question, whether or not she should have been promoted to corps director of SCV last September, or her tenure at Infinity and their parent organization. With the Infinity situation of course it was ridiculous. I don't know the logistics of modern WGI shows and retreats at local shows or champs. What happens behind the scenes and who-goes-where. Obviously the Infinity members were out of control in the gym. Hopefully the Infinity team did a post-mortem of the retreat before the official WGI action. We on DCP do not know, or at least nobody here has posted, anything of what went on within Infinity. The WGI notification was released on 6/5, so I am not surprised that there has been little released in an official capacity by Infinity to-date, or by Ms Bastante. I would guess there needs to be a lot of behind-the-scenes work done by Infinity before anything official comes out, or actions taken. What we know is that the event happened. I'd be interested to see what happens down the line by the Infinity parent organization in their analysis and actions. Bottom line is the buck stops at the top, so whatever happened on the gym floor is, at the end of the day, the responsibility of the management team/staff, with the director at the top of the list. I'm sure SCV management will be very interested in understanding what happened with the person they chose to promote to director, both leading up to the event and what has happened since. After all, she has been with SCV since 2018 and has worked her way up the ladder to her current position.
  7. We will disagree on this. Titling a thread “When does it end with SCV” and posting an article about a WGI group with no written comments, just two photos of the person attached to both leaves it open IMO. If there had been a title aimed at the WGI group with some comments about the connection, including the photos if desired, I’d be more in line with your thoughts. In no way is what happened SCV’s issue. Just MHO.
  8. Possibly. As there was no text at all in the OP’s post, the meaning is open to interpretation.
  9. Totally a silly OT…. if you circle the wagons they aren’t going in any single direction at all. 😀 Just around and around and arou….. 😀
  10. Some are like that. OTOH, when I was arranging for the band I taught, we wanted to perform music by Tan Dun from “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. He himself actually approved our request, charged us something like $75, and he sent me some score material to use in my arrangements. That was the first time I included the cello in our show, as much of the film features Yo Yo Ma, and we had a cellist in the guard.
  11. There have been comments that she should not be hired because of her father. That is what my comment was aimed at. Whether or not her technical skills are up to snuff I leave to others, as I am far from capable of knowing that.
  12. We went to a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons concert at NJPAC a few weeks ago. A young guy next to me, around 30’ish. sang along with every song they performed. He knew every word to every song. My daughter knows just about every song from the 60’s and 70’s. Her friends try and stump her, and they have little luck.
  13. Part of the problem in this thread is that a lot of this is state-specific in how these things are handled.
  14. IMO it is a terrible idea to punish a child for the sins of the parent. In this case IMO… It is up to the management of the places she is working to make sure the environment is safe and secure.
  15. This is, IMO, ridiculous. Back in 2002 our town went from one HS to two. Our already small marching band ended up having a total of around 32 people, with 6 being guard and 6 percussion, plus a DM. For our few winds, we ended up putting mics on every wind instrument except for the two first trumpets and 4 piccs. We micced the one 2nd trumpet, the clarinets, alto saxes, tenor sax, baritone horn and our tuba. The band sounded great given it small size. We actually had the 6 percussion play both pit and battery during the show. The six started all in the pit and as the show progressed the players ended up moving to battery, and back to the pit near the end. Our goal was to make the small band sound as good as possible at both football games and competitions in order to provide the students with the best experience possible. IMO there should not be any such rule telling the staff what they should or should not do to maximize that experience.
  16. That was a ‘norm’ in the distant past. The Turks especially used mounted musicians including drums.
  17. One town over there was the Bridgemen coming on strong in 76 with the banana unis. I bet they took quite a few of the potential members from that area. i think the North Jersey area supported fewer and fewer corps as the years went by, esp top level.
  18. Love that show! I saw it in London in the West End. I also would love to see a corps do Spamalot. The issue with both would be having to sing the entire corps show, since the lyrics are a good part of what makes the shows funny.
  19. I think I know who this is. We had a great show in 77 as the King’s Regiment. That was a very fun show to write.
