  4. To be fair, they generally go perform when the sun is already down and we obviously don’t rehearse in uniforms. There are layers but it’s really no more material than the wool or polyester uniforms I marched in.

  8. This is from an extra piece the front ensemble played for the community outreach concert. Nothing to do with the show. Btw, the flutist is pretty amazing!
  9. By the numbers, this year was record breaking in terms of applications for the brassline at the Blue Stars. Over 400 applications and more than 300+ live auditions. Suffice it to say, we are very excited about this upcoming year! The audition process for the Blue Stars continues at our upcoming camps in Southern California (percussion only) on January 13-14, 2018; and at the Indiana State Fairgrounds (brass and percussion) on January 19-21, 2018. Brass We have awarded membership contracts for about 50% of the available spots in the 2018 brass line. A large number of candidates for the remaining positions have been called back, and we are still accepting new auditionees for the brass program via video audition and at the January camp on January 19-21, 2018 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. To sign up for the January Brass camp, please be sure to complete both a Camp RSVP and to pay your Camp Fee if you plan to attend. Percussion Call-Backs Call backs for the 2018 Blue Stars percussion section will once again be in two locations. Percussionists called back to compete for a spot in the ensemble will have the choice of attending a percussion call-back camp on January 13-14, 2018 in Southern California (location TBA), OR at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on January 19-21, 2018. Potential percussionists can choose to attend either location, and there is no advantage to one over the other. Both locations will be led by Battery Caption Head Eric Shriver and Front Ensemble Caption Head Matt Hernandez. If you have been invited as a percussion call-back, please be sure to complete both a Camp RSVP and to pay your Camp Fee if you plan to attend. New Auditionees Please visit the Blue Stars Audition Sign-Up page to sign up for the January camp and receive the audition packet. E-mail director@bluestars.org if you have any questions about the Blue Stars or the audition process. Color Guard We have awarded membership contracts for about 50% of the available positions in the 2018 guard. The audition process for callbacks and new auditionees will continue on April 27-29, 2018 in Indianapolis. Please send an e-mail to director@bluestars.org if you would like information about no-risk, early-payment tuition discounts. Additional Winter Rehearsal Camps Note: all camps will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds (Centennial Hall), Indianapolis, IN (Airport Code: IND) Mar. 9-11, 2018 Brass only Apr. 27-29, 2018 All Sections Full weekend camps begin on Friday nights at 8:00 p.m. with registration beginning at 6:00 p.m., and end on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. When booking flights for the Indianapolis camps, we ask that you make every effort to obtain a flight that arrives on Friday night no later than 6:00 p.m., and leaves on Sunday evening no earlier than 6:00 p.m. Indianapolis is the only audition location for which we provide airport shuttle transportation.. Transportation to all other audition locations is on your own. If you need to book a flight that does not meet these guidelines, please let us know, whether it be a tremendous savings on flight costs, or a school conflict. Keep in mind that every minute of camp is essential to the success of the Blue Stars, but we also understand that during the winter season, we need to work with conflicts. Please direct any questions to Corps Director, Russ Gavin at director@bluestars.org. Although live auditions are always preferred, we understand there are instances where that is simply not possible. For such cases, we do offer a Video Audition option.
  10. We actually missed all of the rain and just finished our warm up and got on the busses before it let loose. We just had to wait a bit on the busses outside of the stadium.
  11. The CSO and Grant Park orchestra in Chicago also both use presence microphones at Ravinia and Millenium park, respectively, for their outdoor programs. I have also seen this with the BSO at Tanglewood on the lawn.
