  1. I liked the source music more last year, but this program is much more "Madison" than ones from the past several years. Fun, fun program
  2. I sent you a private message. That's the one that has worked best for me thus far, I'm sure there are many others.
  3. From what I've heard thus far, it's a toss-up between Cadets, Blue Devils and Crown in brass. Hopefully going into finals it truly is an "any given night" situation. They are all exceptional and have different strengths.
  4. Oh, please. I'm not posting them anywhere and I'm not using them for any monetary gain. They will not be displayed in public. I do admire your high horse, however.
  5. The degeneration of the fan network is a perfect reason to invest in good screen/video capture software to go with the "new" video delivery service. The new video service is terrible with regards to skips and such, but last night's show was better than the previous one (for me, anyway). The recordings from these software packages are pretty good. Some of them are free, though many of those type have time limits and other restrictions like watermarks on the video. I'm pretty happy with what I've recorded thus far. I really miss the fan network, I didn't need to dig out the old DVDs/Blu-Rays/tapes (egad!) for a long time. Oh well, I collected them all over the years. Hopefully DCI will start selling them again so everyone has access in the future.
  6. I look forward to your travel reports every summer Truman, fantastic job as always. The pics of those lobster rolls take me back to the 94 finals... I think I ate about a dozen of them in a week. I still have the "Devils 7" baseball shirt I wore to the foggy finals that year.
  7. I think what bothers some paying customers in the stands is that staff kids (recent age-outs, usually - on the "tech" end of staff) act as if nobody is watching the show but them. That can be annoying, but after almost 30 years of going to shows I haven't been around really egregious staff behavior very often. I don't know if anyone on here attended DCI North at Buffalo in 93, but some drunken idiot was yelling at Star and their drum major during about half of their performance before they were removed. At the time I just wished that the corps and the drum major would've smacked the guy around, that certainly would've been met with applause.
  8. I think that's the case with pretty much every show I've seen (granted, on video) this year. I have yet to listen to one "dud" this year so far.
  9. During the broadcast on Saturday night I was surprised that the "sticks" didn't look like quills or something to get the idea across. I'm sure that will be fixed quickly. I think that the music alone is enjoyable enough with no theme though, much like last year.
  10. Some of the staff members I know do read DCP, and they're very well versed in weeding out the blathering (read: stomping your feet and whining) from the valid criticism. That's not that hard to do. Each staff has its own vision and this forum impacts that little, if at all IMO. Compared to the RAMD days, this is a great forum for the exchange of opinions and ideas. That's why I think many directly associated with the activity (NOT active marching members) have fun with it, either anonymously or not.
  11. I agree, it's a "who knows" situation. Whatever corps wins tonight sets a precedent, but after that it's a long season.
  12. 1 The Cadets 72.100 2 Carolina Crown 70.800 3 Phantom Regiment 68.300 4 The Cavaliers 67.300 5 Troopers 61.700 Last year's results at the same show, from corpsreps.com The Cavies ended up beating Phantom at finals, but the rest stayed the same. Placements are informative but not necessarily predictive, as always.
  13. The recording quality of the pre-season show used to be much better. I wonder why they decided to do the recording live with an audience? The music is a lot of fun. The Goodwin part is awesome, and some of the soprano octave work on the fast, articulated passages is incredible. Who knows if this show will win anything, I don't really care. The K-pop section is a little hard on the ears right now, but we'll see where that goes. I haven't heard a show this year I've disliked, this is going to be another great year
  14. Er, I assume you're not referring to Robert Pronge. j/k, I watched "The Iceman" movie recently, that was the first thing that came to mind.
  15. For a small donation, that show was definitely worth it. I'm far from being a big fan of theirs, but it was a nice couple of hours and I donate/buy from many of the corps. The Cavies have a cool show this year, and their brass book has a heck of a lot more meat in it than recent years. If something can be done about the voice in the run section, I'll be sold.
  16. Thanks. It's always after family night, I just wondered if any release date had been finalized.
  17. Back to this year's show, does anyone in the know have a release date for the professional preseason recording on bluedevils.org? Sorry if the question has been answered, maybe I just missed it. Thanks!
  18. Actually, over the years on DCP I think there's quite a bit of "rooting against" corps - and in the stands as well. This is sometimes related to the program that a particular corps is doing, but often it's just because of who they are. The DCI honor of being the bad guy is usually correlated with recent success or perceived advantages, of course. I'd like to think that there's more people rooting for all/some corps than against, but much of the time it doesn't seem that way. As xandandl said, you can't teach class... and I'll add sportsmanship to that list as well.
  19. I agree Eh, there are digs at every corps about their show announcements every year. Who cares, we'll see the actual product soon enough.
  20. When I saw Star at DCI North in Buffalo in 93, the reaction to their show was stunned silence until the final minute or two. After the big hits at the end, people seemed to be on board and gave them a fantastic reaction. I love the Scouts and their 88 championship show, but I listen to Star's 93 show far more often. No credit to the drunken idiot during Star's encore performance in Buffalo that night
  21. Several months after the season ends, I rarely watch video (except when the blu-ray discs arrive). My wife puts up with my obsession during the summer, but after that I usually listen to shows in the car during the morning/evening commute. Bluecoats, Blue Devils, Carolina Crown and Madison are basically on repeat when I listen to this past year.
  22. I listen to the '88 SCV show often, fantastic music. I haven't listened to the 89 show since I saw it live at finals. No offense to SCV members from 89, but I really love the 88 sound/arrangement. 89? Not so much.
  23. Fantastic that a corps is coming back!!! A rarity these days, unfortunately.
  24. Fantastic news. There's no question that those kids could really play last year, hopefully they have great retention/recruitment for Mr. Boerma to have some fun.
  25. Upstate New York has had a VERY competitive HS marching band scene, at least in the 80s and 90s. These bands competed at MBA/BOA and did quite well (West Gennessee, Liverpool, Cicero-North Syracuse, etc. Some of those programs have changed, and others are still pretty good.
