  1. And they won visual performance too! I thought it might be a cold day in heck when surf beat spartans there. Looks like their new vis staff are living up to their expectations! Congrats!!!!
  2. i agree with mello_laurel. I haven't yet seen the Spartans show (or any other div II for that matter), but surf was leaps and bounds better than last year, and still better than i expected knowing that their staff changes should help them out some. They might be a real contender this year i think! also, 7th regiment is much improved from last year. they won't be in contention with other "powerhouses", but its nice to see a small corps grow from year to year.
  3. Once again, the hype doesn't produce and lots of people eat there words. its sad really, in recent years its been Blue Stars, OC, BDB... not a knock on any corps, just an observation that the hyped corps tend not to live up to expectations....
  4. Absolutely true!! There is completely no hope for any other corps now that Academy has taken the stage. Kids, pack up now and don't bother. ::Sarcasm noted:: Good luck Academy! Good luck every other drum corps as well. Competition is a great thing that compels excellence... and darn good drum corps shows.
  5. Having the patriots be back would be excellent! Best of luck!
  6. For the poster who asked about Ed Devlin and the drill design... hes listed on the website now. Looks like the staff is filled with talented individuals all around!
  7. Just got my 2/3 cd today!!! Its great! ECJ was really fantastic, as were all the corps i am sure (i just popped it in and have only heard the ECJ track...) Is it summer yet?
  8. There is definitely a new 110 minimum for application to div 1. however, how that translates to corps already up there, i don't know. I would assume since its a new rule, they would be given at least one season to comply. we will see.
  9. You are right in assuming this as it makes the most sense and the ONLY arguable reason for such an "interesting" format, but alas.. DCI has done it again.. both divisions had GRAND champions crowned... how that makes them different from champions (or the champions less champion-like) if 2 corps get the honors, i dont know.. i just know it was VERY odd to see ECJ representing Div 2 at Gillette tonight with silver around their necks. People around me were very confused .. "Why not gold"... "didnt spartans win finals?"... i see this topic getting a lot of attention..
  10. In this messed up system that we now have, I believe that the Spartans are the Division II Divisional Finals Gold Medalists, and ECJ is the Division II World Champions. I didn't say it makes any sense whatsoever... I think that the last show is the last show, and for the competitive aspects of Corps, thats where it all comes down to. In my eyes, its ECJ who was on top today. However, I will note that the Spartans and all the other corps had excellent shows and it was thrilling to see this level of excellence across the board in div 2/3 :)
  11. In theory you are right: everything would be the same. But in a system of judging like we have here in DCI its hard not to have the small effects of relative comparison creep up.
  12. I agree, however, rules are rules. There were so many corps with penalties at prelims.. you would think the corps' staff would make sure they are doign everything right!
  13. As of today Place Corps Score DIVISION II 1 East Coast Jazz 94.450 2 Spartans 94.100 3 Blue Stars 92.600 4 Fever 90.750 5 Teal Sound 89.675 6 Impulse 88.075 7 Oregon Crusaders 87.875 8 Jersey Surf 86.225 9 Memphis Sound 84.925 Congrats ECJ!! I think these results seem about right from what I have seen the last few shows. Congrats to all corps that participate... its not over yet! :)
