  1. I thought I'd start a new thread with the show's current title for the discussion of the actual show. The TV Listings for October 5th are available and this is what it says as a description of the first episode: (Source: Zap2It.com) Close Clash of the CorpsEpisode: Marchin Music's Major League Premiere Special PREMIERE NEW S01, E01 The Blue Devils and The Cadets struggle with auditions, training, and anxiety, but still find time to party.
  2. I just realized something BIG about the planned 2017 tour schedule. BD and SCV aren't listed for the Sacramento Show (Moonlight Classic) on Saturday, June 24. What the WHAT? I hope this is a mistake - there are going to be MANY disappointed people, as both corps have many members and alumni from the greater Sacramento area. The only listed groups are Academy, Blue Knights, Golden Empire, Mandarins, Pacific Crest, and Phantom. Why aren't BD or SCV (or BDB, BDC, or Vanguard cadets) performing?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  3. Looks like there will be an announcement soon! Mods: If there is already an official 2016 thread, sorry could not find one. Delete this topic or merge.
  4. Ten corps tonight, on the following schedule (MDT): 7:30 p.m. Thunder 7:47 p.m. Battalion 8:04 p.m. Columbians 8:21 p.m. Golden Empire 8:38 p.m. Gold 8:55 p.m. intermission 9:15 p.m. Cascades 9:32 p.m. Oregon Crusaders 9:49 p.m. Santa Clara Vanguard 10:06 p.m. Blue Devils 10:23 p.m. Blue Knights NWS says weather will be mostly clear, with temperatures dropping from about 88F to 78F over the course of the show. If you're there, please let us know about it!
  5. Everyone knows the Blue Devils are often the class of the field in design, and their uniforms are no exception. What are your favorite looks since moving on from the traditional jackets in 1994? 1994-2014: An absolute classic which broke from tradition and perfectly exemplifies the dominant "Star Trek: The Next Generation" style of 90s/2000s uniforms. Worn for 4 championship seasons. 2004-2005: An underappreciated look, IMO. Classy jacket but not too different from the old ones. 2006-2008: Introduction of asymmetrical white stripes. 2009: The beginning of increasingly flamboyant designs with the now-standard half-skirt-cape in a strikingly contrasting color. Also, big white plumes. 2010-2011: A lot of stripes. 2012: Colorful undershirts for this innovative and strange show. Jackets applied later were similar to 2010-2011. 2013: Added feathers are classy but slightly whimsical. Less busy jackets. Split-color uniforms and the new shiny-square shakos. 2015: A lot of color for "INK" 2016: Also different shades, can't see the half-skirt-cape's blue to black fade. Blue feather. Interesting cascading layers.
  6. What an incredible show! Huge crowd, every Corps put forth a good show, and the weather cooled down in the evening. A perfect summer evening! Below are my thoughts. Feel free to ask questions. The talent level and performance of ALL corps is simply unreal - if anyone thinks Drum Corps is dying, well... you clearly aren't seeing what I am seeing. Wahoo! I didn't take notes, just writing from memory, so please forgive the lack of detail. Open Class Golden Empire - Bakersfield, CA -This Open Class corps is doing great things! I'm glad they are expanding their tour this year and hope they make it to championships next year. Blue Devils C - Concord, CA -Cute, Adorable. What else can you say? Blue Devils B - Concord, CA -Drumline is insane, rest of the show was good; I enjoyed it, but a lack of "wow moments" for me. Feels like the show has limited room to grow Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA -Great show! I had them slightly ahead of BDB tonight (just checked the scores, I was right!) I think this show has a lot of room to grow World Class Corps Mandarins - Sacramento, CA -They have been on a rise the past few years and continue that trend again this year. They have never looked or sounded this good, this early ever. A very special shout-out to the guard who is MILES ahead of previous years. The corps moves a lot this year which is an improvement from last year. I really wish they would stop using original music, which it is good, I feel like using relatable music might be the hook that pushes them up a few slots. I think they were better than Pacific Crest. It will be interesting to see where this show goes this year. The Academy - Tempe, AZ -Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night. The show connects so well with the audience, I believe it will be a fan favorite all season. Not only is the show entertaining, it looks beautiful and sounds beautiful. Unchained Melody was one of the most beautiful moments of the entire night. Huge crowd reaction! Call me crazy, but I think this show might be a dark horse to make finals. Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA In the past, I feel like PC's show design has held this corps back - this year, I think it is much improved. Their show is called UNION and is about how the railroad connected America. I liked it, but I don't think there is enough there to propel the corps forward this year. Madison Scouts - Madison, WI Judas! This show had a,lot of power. Madison is starting very strong this year. Some good moments, especially when the crowd gets into the familiar music from Jesus Christ Superstar. Emotional show. Big step up this year for Madison. Very strong guard! Blue Devils - Concord, CA -The other surprise of the night (for me!) was that I enjoyed BD's show! They move A LOT. The guard spins A LOT. So much talent in this corps, especially the guard and drumline. I don't mean this as any kind of a knock, but I don't know if this show has the potential to win a championship. I feel like it's missing something to make it truly special. I fell like Bluecoats and Crown will be battling with BD all season. Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA -I call this show Elegant Nature. Very beautiful show. I know nothing about pit, but WOW - the their feature beginning of the show is so pretty. The hornline is FANTASTIC. So beautiful. I think this show was so enjoyable to watch. Not that they went anywhere, but I feel like SCV is back! Blue Knights - Denver, CO -I love glitter, so therefore I liked this show :) They sounded beautiful. I don't want to sound crazy, but I think they might have one of the strongest horn lines in DCI. The guard was also great and their multi-colored flags were so pretty. Some of the vocal tracks seemed a little disjointed, but perhaps it will all make sense once the full show is on the field.Their show wasn't finished, so it was hard to get a firm feel for it, but wow - what a great show!
  7. Hello drum corps family! My name is Kayla Cavano and I'm a Junior Music Education/French horn performance major at Miami University in OH. I have recently been contracted to march with The Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and am looking for sponsors. With paying for school, rent, and many other expenses a typical college student has to pay, an additional $3,400 plus about $1,000 in flights to CA is too great an expense to bear alone. Marching with The Blue Devils has been my dream ever since I saw my first drum corps show in 2008. However, I can't do it by myself so I'm asking for your help. After just completing our February camp, it's safe to say that this summer is going to be incredible. Being a music education major, there is nothing more valuable than marching drum corps and working with some of the best staff not only in DCI, but in the instrumental music activity. I can't wait to learn from this staff and become a better musician, athlete and educator. Marching with The Blue Devils will give me the tools to change my future students' lives. We all remember the first drum corps show we saw. For me, it was 2008 Phantom Regiment that made me fall in love with the activity. I fell even deeper in love when I saw 2009 Blue Devils. I can't wait to have that effect on someone this year. If you are willing and able, please consider making a donation to help me march this summer. My GoFundMe page is attached below, but if you would like a letter sent in the mail, send me your address and I will send one out. Thank you so much for your consideration and for helping me make my dreams become reality! https://www.gofundme.com/dmk3u9y4
  8. I'm not one to be blown away by trailer music, but the last Star Wars TFA Trailer has been blowing my mind. With BD doing a Star Wars Duel of the Fates back 1999, why not this one. Perhaps Crown or BD could play an arrangement in the lot. I think I might arrange this myself, anyways Could you see these or other corps playing an arrangement of the this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCN9K_a-MpE
  9. If you haven't seen the new, Blue Devils and The Cadets are filming a reality show in 2016 off-season and competition season. Let's play around with this. What areas will the producers be manipulating, er ... mining... for drama? What are the pitches? THE COMPETITION. They are going to have to feed on speculation until they meet. But when they meet, they spend almost the entire last 2 weeks of July head-to-head. (Schedule may not be entirely accurate. I did this very quickly) July 12th - Dekalb TOC July 18th - Warrensburg TOC July 22nd - Houston TOC July 23rd - San Antonio REGIONAL July 25th - Dallas July 27th - Hattiesburg July 29th - Nashville TOC July 30th - Atlanta REGIONAL July 31st - Winston Salem TOC Aug 2nd - Annapolis Aug 5th - Buffalo TOC Aug 11th ~ 13th - Indianapolis LOVE! Boyfriends/girlfriends that tour together! Oh the drama! LOVE across distance! Boyfriends/girlfriends that tour with different corps! Oh the unkown and the drama! LOVE across enemy lines! Boyfriends/girlfriends that tour with the enemy! Specifically BD/Cadets! Staff across enemy lines! This could be tough. Not a lot of crossover between BD and Cadets staff as there is with some other corps. Is there any? Also eligible "this staff marched BD/Cadets but teaches Cadets/BD!" FAMILIA! I march with my bro, sis, etc. Even better ... I march BD/Cadets but my bro, sis etc marches Cadets/BD! :big hug: My mom, dad, grandparents marched here. My mom, dad, grandparents MARCHED WITH THE ENEMY! INTRA-CORPS ADVERSITY Practice is so hard! Little-to-no quality sleep! Weather is bad! (Heat is a given. Days of rain or drought?) Sparse or unappetizing food! (good luck getting the corps to play along with this one) I've been injured! Member has problems at home! Member is here against the odds! How do we fill these holes? Add your pitch for show "drama" topics! Check back later and see what we get right and wrong!
  10. Hello all, First, I apologize for two things, first is forgive me if I've started this thread in the wrong category on the forums, I'm very new here. Second, is forgive me if my questions sound ridiculous, I'm new to the world of percussion/corps drumlines. Anyway, I have some questions. I'm Greg, and I'm starting snare lessons in August. I recently purchased a high tension snare drum from Sound Percussion Labs. The snare sounds great, but doesn't produce the sound I'm looking for. Right now, the snare (out of the box) produces that "rat-a-tat" traditional snare sound. I, however, am searching for that "table top" or "formica" sound that every corps uses now. Not really using the "crank the heck out of the top head" technique, but still a table top corps sound. The snare is currently equipped with a Remo Falams II batter, and a Remo Ambassador Snare Side. It's just a basic clear ambassador. I've heard around that the best combo would be a Remo Black Max batter, and a Falams II snare side. However, since I have a Falams II on the batter already, how would it sound if I kept the current batter, but put a Falams II snare side on the bottom? I fully intend to replace both heads at some point, but can only purchase one at a time for now. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! ~KingGreGre
  11. Surprised not to see a thread yet for this show: DCI Dallas, presented by North Texas Festival of Drums Monday, July 20, 2015 -- 7:00 p.m. CDT Wildcat Ram Stadium Lake Highland High School 9449 Church Road Dallas, Texas 75238 Corps in performance order: Open Class Guardians Genesis World Class Mandarins Troopers Colts Crossmen Blue Stars Blue Knights Santa Clara Vanguard Blue Devils Source: DCI. If anyone has details on exact performance times or judges, by all means chime in. Most recent scores have BD at 87.300, SCV at 84.825, and BK at 81.900. It's pretty unlikely any of them will change positions, but what will their scores be? Will Stars catch Xmen? Will Colts catch Troop? How will Guardians do in their final performance this year? Inspiration for subject line:

  14. Greetings DCP Marketplace! I am looking for someone who might have an extra copy of The Blue Devil Book of Drumming they'd be willing to sell, or maybe if you have it on PDF - either way. Have tried eBay for a long time, but no luck. If so ... please feel free to email me: mbdrums@aol.com. Many thanks! Mark
  15. Greetings DCP Marketplace! I am looking for 2 vintage DCI LPs, that I would like to purchase: The 1974 Drum Corps International Championship Volume 3 Drum Corps International 1982 Championships Volume 1 If you might have one or both of these LPs and would be willing to sell them, please reply to this post or feel free to email me: mbdrums@aol.com. Many thanks and hope to hear from you! God Bless. Mark
  16. Ever thought about each member of Blue Devils has a very distinct style and appearance? Do they audition people based on how they look too? Because almost all of them are attractive. Or is it just the fact that they are from California they have this natural celebrity look? Anybody have other thoughts?
  17. Action Wipes all natural wet wipes is doing a sale for the new year, 20% off with code "FEST2015" This product is really useful for members and spectators all year round, for after rehearsals or at shows. Wet wipes that use all natural ingredients and can be repurposed later on after wash, smell great and don't leave a sticky residue like most baby wipes. Wish I had these when I was marching. http://actionwipes.com/
  18. I'm a FMM of The Velvet Knights, having marched in the early 90's. Nowadays, I am a sommelier and restaurant professional who has a popular blog about food, wine, restaurants, and men's fashion. Every now and then, I will write about something that is not-related to theme of my blog, including topics on drum and bugle corps. I've always been a fan and loved the activity since I first saw a drum corps show in 1987. Recently though, I thought it would be fun to interview a current member of a drum corps and feature them on my blog. As it turns out, I know someone personally in The Concord Blue Devils, and he was gracious to accept my invitation and answer some questions. An Interview with Sal Hernandez of the World Champion Concord Blue Devils - Part I The interview is long, and will be broken up over four parts over the next four days. Sal and I talk about a wide range of topics, including the 2013 and 2014 seasons with The Blue Devils, what he thought of the Carolina Crown show from 2013, being on the field at retreat on finals night this past year, discussing some of the so-called "controversies" with The Cadets, what he thinks of Drum Corps Planet, whether they read DCP while on the road, and other fun stuff. Have a read, make comments on the blog and here if you would like, and most of all: ENJOY! Sal is a fantastic young man and is excited to see what you all think of this interview! Remember, there will be four parts over the next four days. I'll be posting a link in this thread for the upcoming parts each day this week.
  19. If anyone can find a video of BD performing their encore last night, that would be great! Thank you in advance!
  20. I noticed that I&E is now called "Performer's Showcase" : ( http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=5b29d729-9624-4bcc-9681-ade52750fe41 ) ... and is sponsored by System Blue. Not sure how I feel about I&E being sponsored by a single corps, because it feels biased to me. Does anyone know anything about this change? Was this so hard for DCI to run?
  21. ... "weasel"? Whatever the answer, there's a show there tonight, and I don't see a thread for it yet, so... Cavalcade of Brass The Sports Complex at Benedict University 5700 College Road Lisle, IL 60532 From the Pressbox gives times as follows: 6:15 p.m. - Racine Scouts 6:32 p.m. - Troopers 6:59 p.m. - Blue Stars 7:16 p.m. - Madison Scouts 7:53 p.m. - Phantom Regiment 8:10 p.m. - Blue Devils 8:27 p.m. - Cavaliers Remember that's Central time.

  23. I couldn't find a thread for tonight's "Corps at the Crest, Los Angeles" show in Glendora, which marks the first appearance by the Blue Devils in six days. DCI gives the line-up as: Watchmen Golden Empire Incognito City Sound Impulse Gold Mandarins Academy Blue Knights Crossmen Pacific Crest Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard With a start time of 5:30 p.m. PDT, which was three hours ago. Why the radio silence? Where are southern California's DCP participants?
