  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 1, 2014. The Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps announced today that they will be competing in Drum Corps Associates' Open Class in 2014. Their growing membership was the deciding factor, and their numbers have been over 65 (the maximum for Class "A") for some time. The corps thanks the New York Skyliner Alumni, their fans and friends for the overwhelming support and interest in the 2014 Skyliners. They look forward to entertaining you this summer! Charter and Founding members of Drum Corps Associates, The Skyliners are thrilled to be back on the field of competition. The Skyliners are the 1966, 1971 and 1975 DCA Champions; and 1999 and 2002 Drum Corps Associates' Class “A” Champions, in addition to other honors. They relocated to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area this past year, and have attracted members and staff from the surrounding high school bands and colleges. However, members also hail from England, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York! The Skyliners are honored to be sponsored by the Michael Steiner American Legion Post #411 in Jessup, PA and the Garbarina-Mazarakos American Legion Post #1523 of New York City. The Skyliners’ 2014 show is entitled, “A New Dawn, a New Day.” Renowned for performing an exciting, entertaining, and crowd pleasing show, this year’s song selections will not disappoint our fans or members. The Skyliners have selected songs that contributed significantly to the history of jazz: “Feeling Good”, “Blue Skies”, “It Ain’t Necessarily So”, “Round Midnight”, and “Caravan”. To date, five competitions have been confirmed. Currently, the Skyliners will be competing at: Bridgeport on June 28th, Kiwanis Open in Secaucus, New Jersey on July 19th;’ Downingtown, PA on July 26; the Bushwhacker’s Show in Lawrence, New Jersey in on August 9th; and in Scranton, Pennsylvania on August 16th. The corps will post information about additional DCA competitions as they become available. For those interested in marching this summer, it is not too late! Contact us at join@sky2014.org.
