  1. Offered for sale is a collection of drum corps drumline writing that spans several decades from the 1970s to the 1990s. Cadences, warm-ups, exercises and random bids from some of the greatest percussion arrangers ever to put their beats on a football field for Drum Corps International, Drum Corps Midwest and dozens of other regional circuits back in the day. This collection is over 100 pages from percussion arrangers such as Marty Hurley, Tom Sorensen, Russ Weber, Dennis Delucia, John Wooton, Brian Dufour, Jeff Prosperie, Bart Dixion writing for corps such as Phantom Regiment, Pioneer, Bridgemen, Colts, Blue Devils, Cavaliers, etc. A great historical collection of drumline beats to help build your chops for auditions and the upcoming marching season. All of the arrangements are in page protectors and shipped in a three ring binder. This is also posted on Ebay and you can view photos there. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153353723429 Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions.

  5. Music City is DCI's newest World Class Corps! Any thoughts?
  6. I am planning on attending the big four events this year: San Antonio, Atlanta, Allentown, and Indianapolis. I would like to purchase premium tickets for each event from the corps themselves. I am a Crossmen alumnus and will likely buy at least 1 show from them, but I am totally open to sitting in other corps' sections and have done so at various times with Carolina Crown, The Cadets and The Cavaliers. Without bashing any corps or its fan base, I'm curious which shows tend to have really high energy fan sections that are supportive of ALL corps performing at each of these events. Any thoughts? It is REALLY important to me that the section is supportive of all corps and that most people are in their seats for most of the show rather than just their favorite.
  7. can anyone tell me the time, date and location? thank you
  8. Hello. I have 2 Friends of DCI ticket packages that I am selling as I am unable to go this year. I can be reached via text/voice or email me if you are interested. They are hard copy tickets so I will need to mail them out. LeesaJunk@gmail.com or 813-404-0505.

  10. Anyone on here attending finals this season? I'm taking a road trip from CT with some friends, gonna be there a couple days prior.
  11. With all the chatter about this season's uniforms/costumes, I thought starting this thread would be interesting. So, in your opinions, which corps have the best and worst uniforms of 2018??
  12. First, the good: It’s nice to hear brass lines punching up the volume again and most corps are accomplishing this without field microphones. Congratulations! Design staffs listen to the veterans and fans after all! We want a big sound and we want it to be produced by natural means. Now, with that being said, each corps used to have its own particular sound. Back in the day you could pick out a brass line blindfolded: Phantom had a particular sound, Madison had a distinctive sound, etc. No longer. Every brass arranger in DCI seems to use the same technique. The trumpet parts are arranged similarly, etc., and its hard to distinguish between some of the brass lines today. Sure, there are differences in quality and clarity but in general there is what I call sameness across DCI. To me things sound tuba- and mellophone-heavy across the board especially live. Even some of the best brass lines in the country sound like a radio with the bass turned up and the treble turned down. Other than from the Blue Devils I don’t hear the searing-hot trumpet sound cutting over the top of the brass section. To my mind the best brass sections shade a little toward the treble end of the balance scale; not a lot, just a little. Look, modern brass lines are amazing but it sounds like the parts were ripped from Arban’s technique book. Would it hurt to play more than four consecutive measures of an actual piece? Other than parts of “Bolero” by The Cavaliers, a couple bars of “God Bless the Child” by the Bluecoats, and a trumpet solo from Phantom Regiment in “New World Symphony,” I don’t hear much I recognize. It’s mostly a ten minute mashup.
  13. Tickets for the championships in Indianapolis, Purchased via Friends of DCI and located in the Friends reserved section. Two semi-finals and two finals. Semi-finals are section 439, row 4, seats 16 and 17, championships are section 439, row 7, seats 14 and 15. Tickets being sold at face value, semi finals at $89 each finals at $139 each. Seats are fantastic.
  14. The Muchachos Drum and Bugle Corps of Manchester, NH has an immediate opening for a brass instructor for the 2018 season. Formerly a junior corps in the '60s, '70s and early '80s, today's Manchester Muchachos is an all-age, DCI-affiliated corps that performs a field show in exhibition at Boston-area DCI shows. Members range in age from 14 to 70+ and consist of seasoned veterans as well as new brass players. If you are interested in working with a wonderful group of individuals in a great family atmosphere, please send an email to muchachos.org (at) gmail.com for more information and an application. Rehearsals are generally every other Sunday and are located in and around Manchester, NH. Because membership in the Manchester Muchachos is open to youth under the age of 18, potential members, staff, and volunteers who are 18 or older must undergo a background check. This is a part-time, paid (stipend or per diem) position. Thank you for your interest in the Muchachos! Have a great season, everyone! Joan muchachos.org
  15. Hi everyone, as part of my drum corps poll series, I’ve come up with my next match up. Throughout the 2017 season Pioneer and Jersey Surf went head to head at numerous competitions throughout the season. At the DCI World Championships, Pioneer finished 34th and Jersey Surf finished 27th. Even though there is a gap between the two, that gap might close up next season. Pioneer is on a mission to field a full Corps next season. Within the goal of marching a full corps next season, Pioneer has a goal of marching a full hornline of 80 brass next season. As of right now, they have 44 brass members registered for their first camp in January. They expect to have their full 80 man hornline by their march camp. Also, pioneers 2018 production Irish Dragons is going to be a show that is going to be the beginning of a new era for pioneer. With this new growth for pioneer, Pioneer is on a mission to rise to the top both competitively and as an organization. Pioneer is going to be a force to be reckoned with next season. After having said all that, who do you think will score higher and finish higher. Please vote and we’ll find out!

  17. Hi everyone, During these past few months, there has been a continuous line of drum corps going inactive because of issues that relates to recruitment of members, finances, and poor leadership by staff members of corps. Below is a list of all the corps that have gone inactive. Inactive Corps: Minnesota Brass - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Kilties - ( DCA Class A ) - inactive as of 4/23/18 Alliance - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 2/21/18 Rocketeers - ( All Age Soundsport Group/ DCA Class A Applicant ) - inactive as of 4/17/18 Rivermen - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 1/17/18 Appalachian Sound - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/15/18 Lone Star - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/19/18 These corps suffered from at least one of the situations listed above. I have recently been in touch with some corps that are looking to return to DCI Competition. However, these corps feel that at the moment, the problems that I have listed could potentially fall upon them. As a result of this, these corps are holding off efforts to get back into DCI competition. Below is list of corps that fall under this category. Teal Sound - World Class - hopes to return in near future. Doesn’t want to return yet because of the incident that happened with YEA. Spirit of Newark - Open Class - hopes to return in the near future. Cannot return yet due to lack of financial support. Racine Scouts - Open Class - hopes to return in the future. Making attempts to grow slowly back into DCI. Cannot return yet due to low membership numbers. We must do do everything we can to help promote the growth of these corps. Corps from all the competitive circuits are suffering and it is up to us to help them out. If you know someone who wants to march, please encourage them to do so. Make small financial donations whenever possible to help ensure the longetiviry of these corps. In the poll above, please vote for the way that plan to help/support drum corps.
  18. https://www.dci.org/news/2018-dci-tour-by-the-numbers This DCI article from 2017-12-06 explicitly that both the DCI Premiere and Big, Loud & Live 15 will both be coming to theaters nationwide, however I cannot find any evidence of this on the DCI Schedule or the Fathom Events site. Any ideas?
  19. Hi everyone, After the recent events regarding the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, I have come to wonder what the future will be for the corps. I personally will say that the Cadets are an amazing corps and always put on a fun, entertaining show. However, now that the corps reputation has been badly damaged, I am fearing the worst. Many people who I have spoken to have said that people will not want to march Cadets because of everything that has happened. People are thinking that they don’t want to be part of a corps with a history of sexual harassment and assault. As a result of this, some people are thinking that the corps will eventually die out because no one would want to march there. I know this whole thing is a theory; however, there are lots of people who share and believe in these theories. Would you allow yourself, your kids, or your friends to march in the Cadets? Please anwser in the poll provided.
  20. Hi, everyone, before I get to my next match up episode, I wanted to take some time and talk about uniforms in DCI. Uniforms have been around since the birth of the marching arts. However, starting in 2016, a movement began. The Bluecoats won their first championships wearing costumes that were customed designed. When the Bluecoats made their departure, other corps followed the same path. In 2017, The Santa Clara Vanguard, The Blue Knights, The Cadets, The Madison Scouts, Gold, Southwind, and The Guardians made the move to costumes. Seeing this movement makes one wonder how long do traditional uniforms, ( shakos, plumes, jackets, and pants ), have until they cease to exist in the Drum Corps World. When looking at the costumes themselves, they have both won championships and lost championships. In the 2016, The Bluecoats won their very first championship wearing costumes. However, the following year in 2017, The Bluecoats, The Cadets, and The Blue Knights finished lower than they did in 2016. On the flip side, The Santa Clara Vanguard and The Madison Scouts finished higher than they did last year in 2016. Santa Clara Vanguard managed to climb up all they way into the top three for the first time since 2004 and The Madison Scouts made it back into the finals after finishing 13th in 2016. For the Open Class Corps, The Guardians, Southwind, and Gold became the first open class corpsnto wear costumes. The movement of using costumes has spread to both the World Class Corps and the Open Class Corps. In my opinion, I like uniforms and hope that they stick around in drum corps. Now, in this thread, please post below what your thoughts are on uniforms and costumes in DCI.
  21. I am working on a Drum Corps World article on Melissa "Mely" Salguero the 2018 Grammy Educator Of The Year. I have a ton of material from the hundreds of interviews and stories about her life leading up to her Grammy. What is missing is her time in the marching arts as a member of the Americans in 2000 and the Boston Crusaders 2001-2004. I will be interviewing her in a few days, but what I seek is quotes from people who marched with her. Also, if you have a question that you would like me to ask her. If you have any interesting or funny anecdotes I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

  23. Its common for a corp to experience a downfall after winning a championship (except BD of course), but I'm sure am excited to see where the Bluecoats are gonna go this year after falling to 5th last year (2017 )trailing of the Cavies at Finals. As much as I'm hoping they'll jump back to their traditional uniforms, it seems unlikely cause of the dramatic shift Corps are experiencing in visual prospect. I sure am expecting an exciting repertoire this year. What are your hopes, desires, expectations for Bloo this year?
