  6. Are you in the NYC/tristate area and want to march Drum Corps? Crimson Kings Drum Corps RECRUITING BRASS, FIFE, DRUMS and COLOR GUARD for Soundsport this summer. Who we are… For those of you who may not have heard of us, we are the Crimson Kings Drum Corps. We are a junior corps established in 1953, our history is of award winning competitions, championships and exhibitions, one of the only remaining New York City Drum corps, we march with the classic G bugle sound. Practices are “weekends only” and are conveniently located in NYC Chinatown. We offer a lighter rehearsal schedule and one of the lowest dues of any competing drum corps. If you want to march but are not sure if you have the time or money, we may be the corps for you! We have a dedicated, friendly staff and membership that have been involved in the activity at all levels. Some of these corps present and past members and staff have marched/taught include the Cadets, Cadets2, Buccaneers, Caballeros, Norwalk Drum Corps, Cadets of New York. We work hard but also have a great time! Our 2014 soundsport show includes well known classic drum corps themes and selections from Joe Hisaishi(castles in the sky, Spirited away). Our members are having a great time learning these pieces, which are popular in both the classical and drum corps world, and we know that the audience and judges will love them too! Come down to our rehearsals, which are Sundays 11:30AM to 3PM. We rehearse at 62 Mott Street, NY. NY. 10013 https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en All we ask is that you come down and watch, there is NO obligation…once you see and hear what is going on, you will WANT to join! We invite you to march with us this year! crimsonkings.com facebook.com/crimsonkings info@crimsonkings.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STC9WxWvsvo

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE http://www.city-sound.org Contact: Nathaniel Lewis Tel: 323-228-7231 email: nlewis@city-sound.org “Murray Gusseck” 2014 PERCUSSION ARRANGER FOR CITY SOUND DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS Murray Gusseck is considered an innovator and trend setter in the world of marching percussion. He has been a musician since the age of 7 when he studied piano and violin. At age 15 he took up playing the drums and has been performing in bands ever since. Murray made his mark as a teacher and composer with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, of which he has been both a performer and instructor for almost 20 years. He became nationally known for a unique compositional style, a signature sound, and a propensity for achieving a smooth drumset-oriented approach to this musical genre. Murray helped start Tapspace Publications in 1998 with friend and partner Jim Casella. He is the author of Parking Lot Etudes and co-author of Fresh Perspectives For The Modern Drumline, both of which have grown to be mainstream publications in the world of marching percussion. Murray attended San Jose State University in San Jose, CA as a music major specializing in world music. In 1998 he joined up with schoolmates Nima Rezai and Dan Heflin, and friend Chip Webster, to form "Merge" an eclectic world fusion quartet consisting of Chapman Stick, saxophone, keyboards, and drums. The group toured and performed in northern and southern California for several years, producing their self-titled CD "Merge" He has taught and/or arranged percussion music for many top high schools and winter percussion ensembles throughout the country. Currently Murray lives in the Portland, OR area where he helps manage Tapspace and plays drums locally. He is sponsored by Pearl Drums, Remo drumheads, Zildjian cymbals, and Vic Firth drumsticks. With the newly formed 2014 City Sound Drum line, we feel Murray’s percussion arrangements are not only vital for the new un-conventional 2014 show, but sonically on the cutting edge of percussion charts arranged just for city sound. We here at City Sound are all extremely excited that Murray is part of our staff. Sincerely Nathaniel W. Lewis, Executive Director City Sound Drum and Bugle Corps http://www.City-Sound.org

As the 10th (and last-born) of the Groh siblings, much of young Charles' formative years were spent in the care of his older brothers and sisters - as his parents sought work to sustain their large family. Left to doodle on his own and blessed with a vivid imagination, Charles was creating pencil and crayon sketches before the age of 4. By the time he was 10 and entered the 9th grade, he was an accomplished photographer - with photos published in the Fargo Chronicle and Bismark Times. Some referred to him as a prodigy. Now, recognized as the 'Zen Master' of the marching arts, Charlie has been a student, performer, instructor, designer, and director of marching bands and drum corps. As a member of the original DCI World Champion Anaheim Kingsmen in the early 1970s, and recently returned as the visual instructor and marching member for the Alumni Corps, The Kingsmen made their debut return at the Drum Corps International World Championships in 2007. Over 200 former members, now in their 40's thru 60's, returned to the field to perform and amaze audiences. Currently, Charlie has again taken his highly sought after marching expertise to the field with City Sound Drum and Bugle Corps From Los Angeles, CA. as Visual Manager for the corps. 18. It is my pleasure to announce that the Watchmen from Riverside California will be applying for DCI Open Class status for the 2014 season. For those of you who may not be familiar with the Watchmen, we were formed last year and participated in local DCI shows as a part of DCI Sound Sport. We had a very successful season in which we had 50 students participate in our group. This year we’re hoping to build on that success while continuing with a slow and steady plan of growth for the future. Our goals for the group are to: Keep tuition costs low, provide students with a solid arts education, and to give our participants a great overall experience. This year we are offering students the opportunity to march with our group for a tuition fee of $350. The Riverside/Inland Empire has always been a hotbed of talent and we’re hoping to tap into some of the local talent the area has to offer. We’re keeping tuition costs low by not touring extensively and not spending beyond our means or trying to grow too fast. Our staff currently has 4 band directors as well as several other great local instructors. For more information about our staff and group please visit our webpage at www.watchmenarts.org. There are still a few names that will be added but were excited with the quality and quantity of instructors that we’re going to be able to offer our students this Summer. If you’re a student who is interested in auditioning then please plan on attending our audition days on Sunday January 12th and Sunday January 19th from 1pm-7pm at Patriot High School in Jurupa Valley. All students are welcome regardless of talent level, especially brass players! There is more information on our webpage. If you are an adult who would be interested in volunteering we’d love to have your help too! If you have questions about the audition or if you’re interested in helping out then please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you all for your time and I hope to see you on the field this Summer. 22. How to Succeed at Your First Drum Corps Camp A Quick Guide from the Bushwackers Drum & Bugle Corps The Bushwackers will be hosting our highly anticipated 33rd Open House coming up in 7 Days, and we would like to share our positive message of how to SUCCEED at your First Drum Corps Camp. This guide, created for our prospective members, can be used to help anyone attending a Drum Corps camp this fall set themselves up for success. If this is your first Drum Corps experience, or even your first time at a Bushwackers’ camp, here are a few tips on how to succeed and leave with a smile on your face: 1) Be Prepared. Your time here is about having fun, not stressing out. Make sure to have the following with you: A great attitude of wanting to have an amazing time while getting world-class instruction Sneakers Equipment. We will have MANY people at Open House. Extra stuff is always good to have around. Brass Bring a horn if you can, in case we run short A mouthpiece Valve oil Towel (Navy Blue), sizeable for under your instrument when laid on the ground Three-ringed binder w/ sheet protectors Percussion Sticks or mallets A Practice pad An extra snare/tenor/bass drum with stand. The more the merrier! Three-ringed binder w/ sheet protectors Guard Your own Rifles/Sabres if desired. Your own pole and silk if desired. Athletic/Dance appropriate clothing Pencils! A great attitude. In case you missed that one :) 2) Ask A LOT of Questions!! Be Wrong! It’s OK! That's the only way you know what's right, and how we know what information we need to be emphasizing. . 3) Make Friends Before Coming Make sure to say hello and introduce yourself in our 2014 Bushwackers Interest group as well as the individual 2014 Brass, Guard, and Percussion groups. Message your caption heads and vets to ask questions, say hi, or just geek out. We love doing that! 4) Make Sure We Know You Are Coming! Why? We want to make sure we are prepared with food, equipment, etc. We need to make sure we can get you a ride or help with anything you need to succeed before Open House! RSVP-ing is easy…go to www.bushwackers.org and click on the REGISTER link by the Open House announcement. It takes like 30 seconds. 5) If you are under 18, tell your parents about the Open House PARENT MEETING at 1pm We will have a special session at Open House just for Parents to get specific info on the details and schedule of marching for a season. Information is key for you AND your family to be successful in Drum Corps. We want everyone involved!! 6) This is NOT an AUDITION! We don’t do that here. We don’t cut people. If you want to be a Bushwacker, we will always have a place for you in the Corps. 7) RELAX, and see #6 Follow this list, and you will walk in already successful. We look forward to meeting every one of you! See you in 7 days. The Bushwackers Open House Team
  23. Hello Everyone! My name is Juan and I'm a music education major at HCC. Last summer I had the opportunity to march contra with the Boston Crusaders. It was one of the best experiences of my life! This upcoming summer will be my last chance to march with the Boston Crusaders ever because I will be aging out. This year's tuition fee is $3,500 and this is very hard to pay being a full time college student. I really need all of your help to make my age out year a reality. I wish nothing more that to have the opportunity to age out with such an amazing organization doing what I love most. Anything you can give will help tremendously!! THANK YOU! You can help me out at: https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/2deXa/ab/61Bat0? Email: jd412007@yahoo.com
