  1. This was also posted a while back as a DCP News item, but it also popped up on PC's Facebook page. Joint PC + BD Audition Clinic in December.
  2. I didn't see a new season topic for Pacific Crest, so here goes. Staff announcements: Visual staff Brass staff Percussion staff Color Guard staff Other staff positions listed here. They are wrapping up a Pacific Crest/Blue Devils Experience Camp and Auditions. PC is auditioning for Brass, Battery, Front Ensemble, Color Guard, and Drum Major. BD is auditioning for Brass and Battery. And now you are as up to date as I am. If anyone has additional info, please post. Thanks! And looking forward to 2017 (except all my kids have aged-out -- sigh!).
  3. This may be a short thread. As of a few minutes ago, I'm getting reports from the area it's raining pretty bad. We'll see and hope for the best. World Class Phantom Regiment - 9:02 Madison Scouts - 8:45 Mandarins - 8:28 INT - 7:58 Pacific Crest - 7:41 Open Class Genesis - 7:24 Shadow - 7:07 I assume all times are local -- CDT. [i wish fromthepressbox.com would make it a little easier to cut and paste from their site.]

From what I understand (after comparing times with the wife and checking online), Mesa AZ is on Standard Time. Anyone at the show?
  5. What an incredible show! Huge crowd, every Corps put forth a good show, and the weather cooled down in the evening. A perfect summer evening! Below are my thoughts. Feel free to ask questions. The talent level and performance of ALL corps is simply unreal - if anyone thinks Drum Corps is dying, well... you clearly aren't seeing what I am seeing. Wahoo! I didn't take notes, just writing from memory, so please forgive the lack of detail. Open Class Golden Empire - Bakersfield, CA -This Open Class corps is doing great things! I'm glad they are expanding their tour this year and hope they make it to championships next year. Blue Devils C - Concord, CA -Cute, Adorable. What else can you say? Blue Devils B - Concord, CA -Drumline is insane, rest of the show was good; I enjoyed it, but a lack of "wow moments" for me. Feels like the show has limited room to grow Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA -Great show! I had them slightly ahead of BDB tonight (just checked the scores, I was right!) I think this show has a lot of room to grow World Class Corps Mandarins - Sacramento, CA -They have been on a rise the past few years and continue that trend again this year. They have never looked or sounded this good, this early ever. A very special shout-out to the guard who is MILES ahead of previous years. The corps moves a lot this year which is an improvement from last year. I really wish they would stop using original music, which it is good, I feel like using relatable music might be the hook that pushes them up a few slots. I think they were better than Pacific Crest. It will be interesting to see where this show goes this year. The Academy - Tempe, AZ -Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night. The show connects so well with the audience, I believe it will be a fan favorite all season. Not only is the show entertaining, it looks beautiful and sounds beautiful. Unchained Melody was one of the most beautiful moments of the entire night. Huge crowd reaction! Call me crazy, but I think this show might be a dark horse to make finals. Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA In the past, I feel like PC's show design has held this corps back - this year, I think it is much improved. Their show is called UNION and is about how the railroad connected America. I liked it, but I don't think there is enough there to propel the corps forward this year. Madison Scouts - Madison, WI Judas! This show had a,lot of power. Madison is starting very strong this year. Some good moments, especially when the crowd gets into the familiar music from Jesus Christ Superstar. Emotional show. Big step up this year for Madison. Very strong guard! Blue Devils - Concord, CA -The other surprise of the night (for me!) was that I enjoyed BD's show! They move A LOT. The guard spins A LOT. So much talent in this corps, especially the guard and drumline. I don't mean this as any kind of a knock, but I don't know if this show has the potential to win a championship. I feel like it's missing something to make it truly special. I fell like Bluecoats and Crown will be battling with BD all season. Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA -I call this show Elegant Nature. Very beautiful show. I know nothing about pit, but WOW - the their feature beginning of the show is so pretty. The hornline is FANTASTIC. So beautiful. I think this show was so enjoyable to watch. Not that they went anywhere, but I feel like SCV is back! Blue Knights - Denver, CO -I love glitter, so therefore I liked this show :) They sounded beautiful. I don't want to sound crazy, but I think they might have one of the strongest horn lines in DCI. The guard was also great and their multi-colored flags were so pretty. Some of the vocal tracks seemed a little disjointed, but perhaps it will all make sense once the full show is on the field.Their show wasn't finished, so it was hard to get a firm feel for it, but wow - what a great show!
  6. A couple of tight showdowns coming to DCI Arkansas (Little Rock). 1/10th separated Crossmen and Blue Stars and 5/100th separated OC and Mandarins in the previous evening at Broken Arrow, OK. Order of performance follows. 7:00 pm Mandarins 7:17 pm Jersey Surf 7:34 pm Pacific Crest 7:51 pm Oregon Crusaders 8:08 pm Colts 8:42 pm Crossmen 8:59 pm Blue Stars 9:16 pm Blue Knights 9:33 pm Santa Clara Vanguard
  7. Pacific Crest have just announced that they will be hosting their Corps at the Crest - Los Angeles show at the storied Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena this summer. Get all of the details here See you there! -john
  8. Where the address is not unknown. It's 500 E. Franklin Ave. That's right: there are two shows in Ohio tonight. Much attention has gone to the Tour of Champions show featuring seven corps in Massillon (which is where I'll be), but three hours to the southwest is a ten others are competing at the 35th annual installment of Soaring Sounds in Centerville, which is a suburb of Dayton. (However, there are even more corps, fifteen to be exact, competing in Indiana tonight, at the Open Class Prelims.) Here is the Soaring Sounds lineup: --Cincinnati Tradition (all age) --Academy --Jersey Surf --Pacific Crest --Oregon Crusaders --Colts --Spirit of Atlanta --Blue Stars --Blue Knights --Cavaliers Show website. According to the website, the first Soaring Sounds was in 1980, but CorpsReps doesn't list a "Soaring Sounds" or Centerville show that year. However, there is a Dayton show listed for July 13, 1980, and I'm guessing that's the one. It resulted in a tie between Crossmen and Spirit of Atlanta, followed by Cadets and Boston Crusaders. I'll kick off discussion with a question that occurred to me as I watched Colts' show last night in Pittsburgh: when the Scarecrow does find Dorothy, how is she going to react to the news that he murdered the Tin Man and Cowardly Lion? Or is he just not going to tell her?
  9. -i-a (Sorry; I see the title got cut off.) How many people here know the original 1952 Guy Mitchell recording? "And I've just gotta get five or ten ..." tenths in several captions, is doubtless what some of these corps are thinking, although one corps who is not thinking that is... "The Commandant's Own" aka The U.S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, who will be appearing in exhibition, at: DCI Pittsburgh Presented by Three Rivers Baldwin High School Stadium 4653 Clairton Blvd. (PA Route 51) Pittsburgh, PA 15236 Sunday, August 3, 2014 -- 7:00 p.m. Corps in performance order: --Cascades --Mandarins --Pacific Crest --Colts --Blue Knights --Blue Stars --Boston Crusaders --Phantom Regiment More information here. And here's a news story about the show from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The National Weather Service says there is a 30% chance of showers Sunday night, with showtime temperature of about 70 degrees.
  10. Drums Along the Mohawk Rome Free Academy Stadium 500 Turin St. Rome, NY 13440 Wed., July 30 -- 7:00 p.m. (EDT) I didn't see a thread for this one. Here's the show site. These are the corps in show order: Cascades Mandarins Oregon Crusaders Pacific Crest Troopers Blue Knights Madison Scouts Boston Crusaders Preceded at 6:45 p.m. by a performance from the Saints Brigade all-age corps. NWS indicates rain passing through the area right now, so I'm guessing a delay is possible.
  11. Lots of agreement early on that this range would be an exciting one to watch as we go into finals. These placement seem to have become consistent since just before San Antonio. So, current placement a lock? percent chance of moving up? percent chance of moving down? Of course if someone moves up, someone has to move down or tie (God forbid). My thoughts: Crossmen: 12th place A LOCK show and performance places them there solidly Troopers: 13th place A LOCK not enough in the show construction to get them higher, too good to move down Colts: 14th place A LOCK this could have been 12th with more talent and cleaner music book sooner voice over not quite right, don't think they are willing to budge much there Spirit: 15th place 40% LOCK 60% Chance to move down show is poorly designed, but they have more talent than some below them and have the finalist experience The Academy: 16th place 50% LOCK 50% Chance to move up better show than SOA all around, some sections as talented, really need to clean OC: 17th place 50% LOCK 50% Chance to move up better show than Academy or SOA, lots to clean yet Pacific Crest: 50% LOCK 50% Chance to move up tidiest show in 15-18 range, gotta turn up the communication and lower individual mistakes
  12. I didn't see a thread for tonight's show, so... Drums Along the Rockies - Cheyenne Edition Friday, July 11, 7:30 p.m. MDT Bison Stadium, South High School 1213 W. Allison Rd. Cheyenne, WY 82007 featuring: Pacific Crest Cascades Academy Oregon Crusaders Madison Scouts Troopers Starts in ten minutes. If you're there, post here!
  13. I couldn't find a thread for tonight's "Corps at the Crest, Los Angeles" show in Glendora, which marks the first appearance by the Blue Devils in six days. DCI gives the line-up as: Watchmen Golden Empire Incognito City Sound Impulse Gold Mandarins Academy Blue Knights Crossmen Pacific Crest Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard With a start time of 5:30 p.m. PDT, which was three hours ago. Why the radio silence? Where are southern California's DCP participants?
  14. Pacific Crest has announced that DCI Hall of Fame member Todd Ryan will be joining their staff as a Visual Consultant for the 2014 season. Read more here In my opinion - another GENIUS move by the folks at Pacific Crest, as Todd is one of the very best in the business.
