I can add a few from the great state of New York... anyone remember the Syracuse Marauders or the Magnificent Yankees out of Utica? The two corps then merged to make the Yankee Marauders. We were not the greatest, but it was a great way to keep us kids off the streets and do something constructive with our lives!

Not totally sure on this, but I believe Wayne Downey marched with the Smithtown Freelancers before he joined DCA's Sunrisers for the 1969 season.

Then he moved to California.... and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.

No mention of the Selden Cadets? They were in the National Dream Contest 1959, 60 and 61. Placed 9th in the 1964 World Open. Not exactly chopped liver.

And how about the Bridgeport PAL Cadets? Another great corps from the 60's.

I think you are right about St Vinnie's being from Bayonne though they were more a 50's corps than the OP's 60's-70's. They folded before my time; I think my first drum instructor when I started marching in 1964 marched with them.

Back then (the 50's) you also had St Joe's from Newark as a very good corps...again, before my time.

yes St. Vincent's is on the corner of 47th st and Ave C in Bayonne and fielded one of the most dominant drum corps of their era, winning many national championships. buuuuut they were from uptown... (very different from the corps that later formed downtown  )

Royal Coachmen...ROYAL lol

Don't forget the incredible St. Johnsburg Blue Sabres! Fine talent came out of there...Sledge and Paul Lampkin. Is Sledge still marching with ES or Cru? Paul later went on to judge in WGI and also with me at NY-PENN. He may have also judged DCI and DCA too. Sledge is a drum corps institution.

Getzville's best horn lines are when Steve Cooley wrote for them.

Lockport Blazers (the second one) made a huge mistake by merging with a Rochester "conglomeration" and the corps was finished. It also didn't help that someone got caught with their hand in the cookie jar later on.

You can also add Lakeview Shoreliners, Lake Shore-ettes and the Rhythm-ettes

....welcome to dcp…prior to 1972, we were Scarborough Firefighters…this is what I wrote in my 1970 scrapbook…

‘July 19, 1970 Youth and Music Jr. Drum & Bugle Corps Competition, Hamburg, New York. It was our first show this year in the United States. Our toughest competition were the Marauders. They beat us by a fraction of a point. We won best guard, best G.E. and best drum major. It was extremely warm in Hamburg, New York and doing a good show was tough.’

And on page 1213 below, the program from that contest…scroll down a bit…enjoy…
