MikeN
Drum corps in Germany seems to have a growing presence, and has sponsored the European legs of several US drum corps tours. It's been brought to our attention (by posters who will be using this forum) that we have DCUK and a Netherlands forum, but not Germany. So, now we do have a place for these discussions and announcements as well! Mike
BariSaege
Thanks for the forum. Drum Corps in Germany is a very little tree in the momenten and we hope to let him grow year by year. Some of the "old-timers" may remember "Drum Corps Deutschland" in the 80s. DCD was inactive for several years. German Corps participate in other circuits like Drum Corps Holland. During the year 2001 some people out of the Drum Corps Szene found that it's time to bring back a competition circuit in Germany for German Corps. So Drum Corps Germany was founded and in 2002 we had the first contest season witch ended with the Drum Corps Germany Finals in Hameln with a win of the Starriders Drum & Bugle Corps followed by the Woelper Loewen. Beside the two leading corps the German Drum Corps Szene develop several smaller Drum Corps and Show Corps to compete under DCG Rules. We are looking for a very sucessful season this year with a bigger group of competing corps. In the moment following corps are members of Drum Corps Germany: Blue Lions Rastede Fidele Vogelsanger DBC Golden Lions DBC Red Stars DBC Schaumburger Herolde DBC Showband Phantom Brigade Showband Rastede Skyline DBC Spirit of Music DBC Starriders DBC Stormarn Magic Wölper Löwen DBC Most of them are competing or start their first season with an exhibition program. Starriders is happy to increase the numbers of competing members year by year. Fair competition on the field to the profit of the audience and the corps is the main goal. Not fighting each other. In this forum we will post continually news and infos. Please feel free to ask any question about Drum Corps in Germany. We are happy to let the hole DC World take part of our idea of Drum Corps. Anyone out of the DC Family comming to Germany? Say hi! We are all over Germany and be happy to "talk some DC" personally. Hope this forum will grow as good as the German Drum Corps Szene. MikeN
How big are most of the groups? What kind of horns do they use? (G or Bb) What are the typical songs that corps play? How long are the shows? Do they tour? :) Mike
BariSaege
How big are most of the groups? What kind of horns do they use? (G or Bb) What are the typical songs that corps play? How long are the shows? Do they tour?:) Mike Hi Mike, the corps are typically < 50 members on the field. Usually ~ 17 to 22 brass, ~ 10 Backfield, ~4 pit, ~10 colorguard, 1 DM Just an ruff idea. Numbers various from corps to corps. What I heard from Starriders: 20 Brass, 3 Snares, 2 Quints, 5 Bass, 3 Pit, 10 guard 10 Guard, 1 DM - but also these data can change in little bandwide. Several corps play G-Bugles (Starriders, Woelper Loewen, Fidele Vogelsanger). But we were open to multikey instruments from the very beginning of DCG. So there are several corps with Bb/ F Horns. Reportoire is like in DCI/ DCA very different. Starriders is famous for their Latin Jazz Shows. Woelper Loewen does some really crowd pleasing Swing/ Jazz Shows. But also Film Music and other styles are there. You should find some corps reps on www.corpsreps.com. Show time is between 9 and 13 minutes. So simular to Div. III DCI rules. No they don't tour like DCI corps. They are weekend warriors like DCA-Corps.
