Colleges with Color Guard

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am a high school counselor working with a student who is interested in continuing with color guard in college. Does anyone know of a list of US colleges/universities with Color Guard Teams?

Respond on this list or email me directly at: lrosenman@mail.ab.mec.edu

Thank you,

Many colleges have colorguards--any college that has a marching band will pretty much have a guard. Is the student interested in winter guard? That's a different matter entirely.

Where is this student interested in attending college, what major? that information would help tremendously as well.

Universities with programs competitive in WGI (pulled from wgi.org):

Arizona State

Boston University

College Mont-Saint-Louis de Montreal

Florida International University

Heritage of McKendree University

Midwestern State University

James Madison University

Missouri State University

UConn

Utah Valley University

University of Texas

University of Alabama

University of South Florida

Michigan State

There may be more that compete in local circuits but not nationaly in Winter Guard International. Best thing to do is see if the school has a marching band. Most marching bands offer a scholarship per semester i.e. LSU, Arkansas and Georgia.

Edit: I'll add schools that directly have winterguards.

Towson University in Baltimore, MD has a great outdoor color guard and is looking to start a winter guard that will compete WGI next season. The marching band also offers a $500 stipend for every marching band student. Also, TU will be marching in the 2009 Macy's Day Parade in NYC! Good luck!

They competed in some TCGC shows and were scheduled to attend the Austin and Dallas regionalsl. They had planned to go to Dayton, but didn't make it.

Last I heard the program was up in the air for 2010.

University of Massachusetts has a great band program. Blessed Sac and Sacred Heart nearby, along with tons of other independent groups.

West Chester University of PA - great outdoor, lots of winterguards in the area to march. (Black Watch, Light Brigade, Field of View, Alter Ego)

University of Delaware has a big band, strong guard program, and an indoor color guard that competes locally and at WGI (Delazure)

Southerntier of NY has Spectrum around colleges like Binghamton, Cortland, Syracuse. We offer an inexpensive opportunity to do winterguard. Rehearsals are only on weekends.
