Santa Clara Vanguard 2010

Recommended Posts

OK... we've really traveled far on this thread (discussing composer deaths and merit of their music).

So, back to the topic on hand, Santa Clara Vanguard 2010.

I'll state that regardless of taste, I think that the year's program is a good fit for Vanguard.

I also enjoyed Michael Cesario's, Marc Sylvester's and Dan Potter's discussion on DCI Field Pass.

Michael cited the use of Bartok as "the Perfect fit for Santa Clara". I happen to agree.

I'm also hearing that SCV will be changing up some things, particularly the ending, so it'll be interesting to see what the final product will look and sound like.

Yep, definitely works for SCV.

Looks like their new image is to go for VERY faithful arrangements of truly great pieces. Love it.

What we've seen so far is everything up to the closer. They haven't even put the closer in for performance yet. So it's not really changing the ending, it's adding an ending. Which is awesome. The part they're putting in for the closer is the most popular/accessilble part of the Bartok piece

It would be interesting to see your "Milton Babbitt' show...

let's see, who would be the best choice for that? Anyone? Suggestions?

Here is just a taste (which I like, btw...)

And no fair saying "Star" -

There are more than a handful of corps that sound like that at the first camp.

Oh wait... it's SUPPOSED to sound like that? Oh...

According to their website, there is also a pre-show planned. Wondering anyone have heard it live? Hope it would be on the field this comming weekend!

I also love that new aspect of SCV. Key has done an excellent job pretty much transcribing Bartok for this year's show. I sure hope SCV decides to keep it that way for years to come.

I love SCV. But I watched the 2010 Family Day show on You Tube & quite honestly I have no idea what in the world the show designers were thinking. Non stop avant garde mayhem without any melody just doesn't do it for me.

Gosh I miss Appalachian Spring.
