kdaddy
I've been to finals eight times, and I've stayed for the champion's encore for all years but this one. For anyone who stayed around, how many folks might you estimate were there for the encore? Same attendance as normal? Smaller or larger? Thanks! BCC99Man
Definitely smaller. I'm sure all encores have smaller crowds because parents want to get to their kid, which has a 91% chance of NOT being in the encore. Anyways, I stayed for the encore. Tons of BD alum and BDB kids there. Lots of shout outs and cheering. I love how the Blue Devils do encores without shakos. It's a really special opportunity for the fans to see the performers' faces during the show and a time for the members to fully see all the people staying in appreciation. Oh yea, and they play BALLS LOUD Edited August 16, 2010 by BCC99Man
bigbandgeek
In the 4 finals I've attended, it was the smallest turnout I've seen. Maybe 2K. On the other hand, I'd say 15K stayed for Phantom in '08.
oldbandguy
I stayed for the encore and I liked the show MUCH, MUCH better. Ghost
Nobody does an "encore" like the Blue Devils!!!! The on-line coverge of the scores showed people exiting after the Cavies scored was announced.

Since BD '08 it's like a lot of corps are trying to prove something with plume size ... Now Crown and Cadets are getting into the act. How many ostrich are going to have to pay the ultimate price before corps will be satisfied that their plumes are big enough? Oh, the humanity! I discovered it was the dammn shakos that I didn't like!!! and they DID play LOUD and they had a lot of fun ...I completely disagree. I liked the encore MUCH better! I always like the horns playing the same thing at the same time....I think, in the competition program, they purposefully played the same thing at very slightly different times. The final show just about killed me during the half circle. BUT BD played that section differently during the encore. I heard a melody I recognized!!!!! Why was there that much difference? Was that planned? Oh, back on topic, I believe there was around 2K in attendance for the encore. I DIDNT LIKE THE SHOW......BUT LOVED A LARGE PART OF THE ENCORE!!!! Maybe they'll start evolving and trying out different material other than feathers. Leopard skin anyone?
