glory
Not sure you'll find a whole lot of clarity in the discussion here. You might want to start closer to home with this letter from Dan Acheson on DCI.org. EDIT: This post to DCI.org will help too. Note also the links in the Acheson letter. Good information in those. garfield
What is it that you're confused about? Have you seen "The Proposal" from the G8?
soccerguy315
Blue Devils, Vanguard, Crown, Cavaliers, Phantom, Cadets, and Bluecoats put out a proposal last spring to: 1. create a circuit for the top 7 WC corps inside the current tour 2. ban all the other corps from performing on Fridays and Sundays (do not share any money from G7 friday/sunday shows with other corps) 3. redefine the corps into classes called AAA, AA, and A (AAA would be the top 7) 4. give all voting power within DCI to these 7 corps (they would each get 2 votes, AA corps (aka 13-17) get 1, and 18+ get no votes) 5. remove all DCI support for open class 6. allow these 7 corps to move the other corps around from AAA to AA to A as they please based purely on a vote 7. provide the 7 corps with more money from shows 8. only market the last 8 corps performing at saturday regionals ("8 at 8" concept) 9. delete independent show sponsors 10. remove much of DCI's HQ staff, it is wasteful they also had ideas about how the new shows would be judged, including a "winds" caption. Other ideas included interactive warmups, instant encores, announcer hype, audience participation, etc the powerpoint stated, among other things (these are direct quotes): Drum Corps International is in danger fiscally. Poor attendance, high overhead, and a base of more corps than the organization can support, has put the organization’s continued existence in jeopardy. As much as the “G7” are proud members of Drum Corps International, we believe that change is necessary to assure our continued service to our students and our communities Corps are NOT the same. Those who drive sales through excellence and entertainment ability deserve to be rewarded Premier Corps are Critical to DCI’s success and require greater influence. .The premier corps are critical to the organization’s success. As such, the opinion of these same corps is most important and needs to be valued. It is not wise, or appropriate, that each of the current world class corps have a vote that holds equal influence. Those who sell tickets, those who generate sales, those who are most marketable -need also to control a larger portion of the vote on business and adjudication issues. Governance needs to be weighted to allow those who drive success to affect decisions. you can read the whole thing here: http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Rec/rec.arts.marching.drumcorps/2010-05/msg00346.html Edited January 19, 2011 by soccerguy315

Could have been implemented in such a better way, after reading this I guess I do care about this more than I thought.
audiodb
What is it that you're confused about? Have you seen "The Proposal" from the G8? Remember, the proposal was put forth by seven corps, not eight. There is no "G8".

Let's make sure the OP is well educated on the original proposal, with no mention of the ACTUAL CURRENT agreement. Lame.
brians
and of course we can not forget how they went about trying to impose these ideas on the rest of DCI by trying to take DCI over in a sort of coupe ie..... removing Dan A as executive director.... an emergency meeting where the rest of the DCI members had to step in and remomve certain board of directors, others in solidarity resigning from the board, and the other member corps having to form an emergency board who then reinstated Dan A. The result being the new board and DCI being able to say no to many of the ideas origionally presented and being able to come up with the compromise position which currently exists and is supported by DCI Edited January 20, 2011 by brians
