lindap
The Mariners were one of the early (if the 1960s can be termed early) total GE corps on the field. 32nd Hussar was famous for being the "other" all-male corps from Madison. They had their drum majors pose on horseback for the official corps publicity photo. The Drifters (at least the ones from British Columbia) were around through the '78 season. Come to think of it, the Drifters from MA were also around through the '78 season. Gateway City was, as their name would imply, a short-term merger of smaller St. Louis African-American corps. They were only on the field in '78, and they played "Star Wars", "The Wiz" and "Send In The Clowns". Iron Cross was the Crossmen feeder corps through the early 80s. Blue Knights (MI) played "Latina" as a sort-of theme song for the 72 through 77 seasons. Queen City was a mainstay in Ohio for quite a few years, before disappearing after the 77 season. Thank you. One of The Drifters recently won WGI winter guard; AAG played "The Wiz" and "Send In The Clowns" in 77. Before the internet there were parallel worlds/universes. You provide food for thought. Thanks again : )
HornsUp
How about a corps that didn't go to DCI...Oshkosh Warriors? 1972 was the last season for the Warriors. The highlight of their existence was winning the 1969 World Open Class B title - by over 10 points !!! They were formed as a parade corps around 1963, and originally wore Indian Warrior uniforms. Sponsored by the local Kiwanis club and the YMCA, they went under the name of K-Y Warriors until . . . . well, you get the picture. I wrote all their music from 1967 on. ( And was also responsible for the "Applause" cue painted on a bassdrum head when they played "Applause, applause" as an opener.) The staff was all Racine guys attending UW-Oshkosh. Kiltie soloist Les Chambasian tutored the bugles. Racine Scouts John Mathe and Al "Ungey" Karls handled the drums and M&M/guard. Corps director was history prof Howard Johnson, a Kiltie alum. The colorguard, in cherry red hotpants jumpsuits, was quite a pleasure to behold.

bass5
The topic name is pretty funny to me because most of the corps listed are not "barely heard of" for me but rather a what corps did you march against list. alankarls list of the corps in upstae Wisconsin and the UP is missing a couple from that time, the Hurley Ambassadors, the Blue Knights from Ironwood, the Brass Regiment from Park Falls, and the Durand Silver Sabers all girl drum corps. The Sundowner's first year was 1971 after the Eau Claire Boys added girls midway through the 1970 season. If I remember correctly there was a woman named Annie Mixdorff (or something like that) that ran "Parade Specialties" which was a small Wisconsin circuit with the Parade/Contest format in small towns. Maybe the vast Knowledge of Northern Thunder could help me out with the facts.
GrewvyG2
More UP Michigan Corps... Silver Echoes of Munising, Majestics of Marquette, Castle Rangers of Munising, Golden Eagles of Lanse, and the White Beret of Iron Mouintain. She was also earlier involved with Badgerland. About 10 years ago I acquired her photo/contest program files. Lots of treasures in there. (Also some old corps booster buttons!) I talked with Roman Blenski about her many years ago and he said she was the next up to get DCM off the ground if he didn't take on the gig.
