ajlisko
Well-said, Frank. Back in the day... (dinosaur moment here...LOL)... it seemed even the most rinky-dink local corps had at least one solid soloist. CW Townsmen - Johnny Grass SI Lawmen - Bobby Burke York White Roses - Ritchee Price Smithtown Freelancers - Wayne Downey Riversiders - Baby John Chalmus SI T-birds (maybe Lawmen - not sure) - John Arietano (Screech) St. Joe's Brigade - John Girardi Got more? :-)

rayfallon
There are far too many people to list, and this topic could begin to get maudlin in a hurry. That said, I miss: 1. 14-minute shows that allowed for some variety and/or development. 2. Rudiments 3. A season that extended from Memorial Day to October 4. The previous abundance of soloists 5. Full retreats Of course, we won't see any of these again, unless we believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. I missed the last 3. I know Shirley Temple played with Sky... BTW,I'm Irish - I'm supposed to start a maudlin thread once in a while. Definitely miss the Memorial Day kick-off. And if you're missing those wild soloists - why don't you fill a spot with someone? That would certainly raise the bar in a hurry.
rayfallon
Gotta recording of it? :devil:/> No but it sounded a little bit like Eddie Murphy's "Raw" with a Brooklyn Accent...

(he was the "third" soloist for the Matadors with Ritchee and Centorino) Didn't realize Larry was with Hershey after I met him in Westshore. And Chuck.... what a shocker to me when I found out what he did in RI. Still with Hanover... And yes, about every freakin' Memorial Day weekend there are a few times when I feel I should be in Danville... Made last Mt Carmel show in 75 and in Danville either on the field or in the stands until at least 1980... Quite Successfully too. Some of their "cadet" members who went on to greater things were none other than BHOF member Kenton Clarke (Skyliners), Dave Convertito (Hurricanes) and Al Richmond (Hurricanes). He was one of the megaphone trio along with Jim Centerino and Ritchee! ) Regimental Cadets had George Kosnik, Al DeRosa, Tom Roca and the late Tom Tori (USMC, V-N). Kosnik went to OLPH, Roca and DeRosa went to BSGK. And yes, Screech did play with T-birds for a couple of seasons, as did Mr Tori. Psst - Baby John came from the Brooklyn Privateers! Good solid corps. Ray Edited June 10, 2013 by Ray Priester
ajlisko
Psst - Baby John came from the Brooklyn Privateers! Good solid corps. Ray Ah yes ... the Privateers ... I knew that ... somehow that mind cavern lost its electronic pule when I posted ... his I&E accomplishments with the Privateers were notable ... imagine an I&E show in the early 60's with Baby John, Gaff, Screech, Burke, Grass and several other now BHOFers all in the same show ... and then imagine that it was the Metropolitan Championships in Staten Island ... yes ... it did happen ... then add on the Sr side Bucky, Pepe, Tommy Martin, John Simpson, Dorritie, Billy Hightower and a slew of others ... then throw in the busloads from Oceanside and Blue Rock and you've got a show that ends around 3:00-4:00am! :-)
