. If you don't want to come here to Rochester than just don't come because there will a lot of others to fill the seat you give up. Just my opinion.

Hope your right.

With the loss of Empire you are going to loose some fannies in the seats no doubt. Alot of Empire fans will just stay home.

Lets face it Renegades brought a certain something to the table and while I will stop short at saying that people will stay home because they will not be there...it might keep some of the fence sitters at home.

Then there are the people that are sick of Rochester that are not going back at all. Some will use this season as a temper tantrum of sorts to prove the they need to find another city other than Rochester and some will never return to Rochester. Heard plenty of that.

Either way you better hope DCA finds a way to make up for these losses.

I heard the junior corps Patriots where attempting to make a come back years ago but it never happen. A guess Syracuse is just as bad off economically as Rochester. I was hoping the Brigadiers could make it back but I believe they do have a active Winter Guard.

That rumor about Patriots was false... There has never been any thought of a return to the drum corps field... not since the bankruptcy and new management that saved the organization from chapter 7 (liquidation)... They have an excellent winter guard program at this time... and still have an excellent bingo hall - despite the downslide of bingo everywhere...

I must add that although I am involved somewhat on the fringe with their bingo game - doing some work for them and advising them, I am not part of the organization and have not been since my retirement in 2002 and do not speak for them in any way.

Been discussed before, a lot of people including myself were going to Annapolis and not up to NY, and there are what seem to be the same amount of people who didn't go to Annapolis that will go if it's there.

If Crazy Egor's was still open and the internet didn't make the games he slod esily avalaible I'd go up just to shop there again like I used to. Egor was a great guy.

with the number of bingos left, (not many) some halls here like Patriots are holding their own... this is because of the decline of other halls... survival of the fittest... but Indian and now legalized gaming are a killer... tonight it was announced that the Seneca Nation is buying property next to Marketplace Mall in Henrietta for a new casino... each move like this is another nail in the coffin...

Hey Tom -

Is this 'proposed' casino JUST a casino, or are they talking hotel+ casino ? That would make that stretch of real estate generating about twice the traffic, if not more. What do the local think about this?

I look at it that if it's a big complex - most of the retailers around there might improve, or the restaurants might have a bigger scene of competition. If we keep going back to the Double Tree, we could wind up spending some time over there.

Sounds interesting to say the least.

don't know Pat but generally they do a casino and hotel together... the ironic part is that the town where they are buying land has recently voted NOT to allow casinos in a general referendum yet the politicians keep negotiating with the Seneca's or whoever... very interesting... as a skeptic, I can only wonder what's going on...

Further interesting question is that Wilmorite development is headquartered in that same area, but they have announced that they will bid for one of the recently legalized "gambling zones" to build a major Las Vegas style casino in the finger lakes about 40 miles down the thruway... and although I don't think they have gotten into the casino business before, they are big enough to do anything they want to money wise and will be bidding against the Trumps, Bally's and whoever of the world... but I guess the Indians want to jump the gun and try and claim their share first - before the big boys can mooch into their territory...

wow... this is fun to watch, but could be a disaster for what little bingo is left... let's hope not... but... who knows?

To let you know...I have been working on and making a reality of an old fashioned individuals, ensemble, mini corps, and alumni exhibition show. The Ghost Riders Mini Corps and the Buglers Hall of Fame are co sponsoring the "Bugler's Hall of Fame Buffalo Regional" on April 5th, 2014.

The show has been blessed by the BHOF, and we have already booked many acts that should make this a memorable experience for all drum corps lovers in Western New York and Southern Ontario.

Look for this announcement as its own topic very soon, but we have the St Joe's Alumni, St. Joe's Reunion Brass Ensemble, Hamburg Kingsmen Alumni, The Hitmen, The Ghost Riders Mini Corps, The Militaires from Niagara Falls, Cadre drum ensembles, Tri-Valley Brass (members from the Bridgemen Alumni) Parkside Avenue Brass, the Merri Baris, several great individual soprano, Mellophone, Baritone, Duets, Trios, Small Brass ensembles, and percussion ensembles already signed up and paid for. We are hoping for some BHOF members to perform and show why they belong in that fraternity.

The show will be at the Sikora Post on Payne Avenue in North Tonawanda, which should be a great venue to promote a "social" atmosphere and share war stories. The date again is April 5, 2014 starting time should be close to 1PM with the individual shows and culminate after the alumni corps exhibitions.

Drum corps is alive and well in Western New York!

Donny
