BRASSO
We have to let the week play out... But with 4 top corps all gunning for medals will 2013 go down in the books as the "BEST TOP 4 EVER"??? While all 4 are very, very good, I would put 3 other years as at least equal to the top 4 of this year: 1989 SCV 98.80 PHANTOM 98.40 CAVALIERS 97.20 BD 95.90 1999 BD 98.40 SCV 98.40 CAVALIERS 97.00 CADETS 96.40 2008 Phantom 98.125 BD 98.100 CAVALIERS 97.325 CROWN 96.800 If nudged to pick 1 year, I'd say 2008 was collectively the best top 4, as even Crown's 4th place Corps in 2008 is better than any of the other 4th place corps of any year, imo.
jjeffeory
I'm going to say 1990: 1) 97.7 The Cadets 2) 96.9 The Cavaliers 3) 96.5 Star 4) 95.3 Blue Devils 4) 95.3 Phantom Regiment During that year, every corps in this grouping had beaten every other corps during the season. It was pretty much anyone's game that year. Oh and there were 5 corps in the 4 placings.

OrlandoContraAlum
While all 4 are very, very good, I would put 3 other years as at least equal to the top 4 of this year: 1989 SCV 98.80 PHANTOM 98.40 CAVALIERS 97.20 BD 95.90 While I will grant you this one, as these were all great shows, 99 and 08 are a little off (IMO, of course) as I am not a fan of a couple of shows in each top 4. Obviously, just my opinion. From a competitive standpoint, it's hard to beat 1980: 1. 90.6 BD 2. 90.25 27 3. 90.05 Bridgemen 4. 89.8 Spirit 4 Corps separated by a total of .8, and 4 very, very good shows. Honorable Mention (again, IMO) goes to 1984: 1. 98.0 Garfield 2. 97.9 BD 3. 97.4 SCV 4. 95.6 Phantom Sure, bigger spread from 4 to 1, but some iconic shows (WSS, La Fiesta, On The Town, 1812)
OrlandoContraAlum
All of that said, in my opinion, this year has the best top 4. And I love pretty much every top 4 mentioned here so far.
cavie95
Regardless of scoring, the strongest, most entertaining top 4 I've ever seen has to be either 1989 or 1991.
wallace
I said maybe. I'm awfully fond of '91. IMHO, it was one of the strongest top 12 in DCI history.
Jumbo Staples
The scores weren't insanely tight (although we did have a silver medal tie), but I thought 2001 had a very diverse and repeatedly listenable top 4. It was the first time an all original program took the crown, and I can vividly remember people going absolutely nuts for SCV's New Era. 1) Cavaliers - Four Corners (98.35) 2) Blue Devils - Awayday Blue (97.60) 2) The Cadets - Juxtaperformance (97.60) 4) SCV - New Era Metropolis (95.35)

I think it was one of the weakest years for the too 4, despite scores.
loopin' froot loops
2003 had a pretty memorable top 4: Blue Devils- Phenomenon of Cool Cavaliers- Spin Cycle Cadets- Our Favorite Things Phantom Regiment- Harmonic Journey Edit: Granted, Cadets 03 isn't usually mentioned as a "memorable" show, the other 3 are mentioned quite a lot as one of the corps' top shows.
