sobe
Open Class gets the short end of the stick? The Open Class directors voted unanimously to come to Michigan City because it's a great town for drum corps, the locals come out, and the corps are treated like rock stars...an example of that being the police escort each corps gets out of town to the expressway. Is Michigan City that bad of a town? lol
fsubone
It's the danger of having drum corps shows outdoors. Which I prefer actually. But it's kind of amazing that DCI never has had to cancel a world class championship show due to rain...and probably never will now that it's indoors. (Although I do remember the Madison Scouts got rained on at finals in Mississippi in 1993?) Didn't Quarterfinals in 1994 get rained out? I thought the top 5 did at least
Corps Scores
Ah yep, you're right; 94 Quarters got rained out at the top: http://www.corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=1994155 But Scouts did get rained on in 1993 at Finals :-)
Michael Boo
Remember PBS? DCI did not dump PBS. PBS dumped the DCI broadcast, informing is that while tons of fans called in to pledge during the pledge breaks, relatively few followed up on their pledge. So, because of that you're suggesting DCI sold out? That's simply not accurate.
Michael Boo
The directors have a meeting at 9:35 Central Time, when they will decide what they're going to do...wait for the rain and nearby lightning to stop or call the show and have the final four corps seeded into Finals in the order they would have performed tonight. flammaster
PBS sold out. It's no longer the great voice it once was.
Michael Boo
Thank you for clarifying who sold out. Personally, while I wish the show stayed on PBS, I believe the network made the decision in what they believed to be in the best interest of their viewers. I'd love to know if only a handful of people contacted them to change their mind. In Chicago, the show used to be live. Then it moved to Labor Day weekend. Then it moved to Thanksgiving weekend. The next step would have been the following Arbor Day. Edited August 5, 2014 by Michael Boo

That's too bad. Couldn't make it up there tonight. Went a couple of years ago and prelims rained out. Very disappointing. Great show and venue.
