Galen
Hmm, looks like there were lower numbers across the board at pretty much every show we had yesterday. I'll bet the judges are a bunch of Packer fans and are finding a way to take their frustrations out after yesterday's game. Today, we have just two events as we start splitting up the calendar a bit. Midwest corps remain in Minnesota and venture up to Eden Prairie HS, on the west side of the Twin Cities. Although both corps finished behind Ivory Brigade, Northern Light and Dark Knights kept things very close in Rochester, and both expect to be vying for a win tonight. In the southwest, the corps travel to Flagstaff AZ to compete at Coconino HS. The covered seats should provide some comfort to the fans, but the numerous support struts may obscure sight lines somewhat. The architects who designed this venue should travel up to Oregon or Washington to learn how to build a covered stadium properly. Dune Battalion will be the corps to watch out for, as they've had a couple days off since their last show in Santa Clara and should be well rested. StarOrg
Honestly I think those lower scores were due to that BLUE field at Folsom HS last night. Awful! We are about where we normally are this time of year. Horrible with difficult programs to conquer. cjf20
well not the best start of a season, but i'm still hopeful.
Galen
One thing to keep in mind is that since the 2014 season started a bit later than normal, scores from that season will be generated for the first few shows of our season, and scores will be lower as a result. Also, since Class A corps are using lower GE corps, that will also drive their scores down a bit for this part of the year.
Galen
Today's events: Polaris Regiment's corps enjoyed a spectacular night in Rochester last night, completing a sweep of all three divisions. Now they'll try for a back to back sweep at Prairie HS in Cedar Rapids IA: A second midwest event takes place in the northern Detroit suburb of Troy MI. Ivory Brigade will be tangling with a pair of "cat" corps in Golden Panthers and Panther Prime at Troy-Athens HS, while Mackinac Island Crusaders look to score a home-state win in Class A And out west, the first Pacific Northwest event of the season at Hillsboro Stadium in Portland OR will see a great matchup in all three divisions between the Star Org. and Quiksilver trio of corps. TroopAlum12
Oof, our score took a hit tonight...definitely looking for things to shape up a little as before we start moving towards our home show.
gcurrier
This why I don't worry too much about early season scores. I got 3rd on the only show we've been at, yet we are ranked 3rd overall and ahead of the corps who beat us lol heck we are first in weighted scores! Galen
Today's a light day, with just two events. Corps competing out west will have the spotlight to themselves today as most of the rest of the country has the day off. We make our first stop in southern California of the season with a show at Roosevelt HS in Corona CA. The Circle City corps group will be featured in all divisions. I'm most looking forward to the matchup between Texas Zephyrs and Spirit of Indy here. In the northwest, two of the Alpine corps will lead things off at Mt. Tahoma HS in Tacoma WA. Note to the folks in Flagstaff- THIS is how you make a stadium with an awning. This event also marks the debut of Enlightenment, the third member of the Thoroughbreds stable of corps. Good luck to their members in their first show tonight!
McLovin
A strong showing last night by Enlightenment's debut! Finishing just barely behind Cross, the corps is excited for continued growth throughout the remainder of the season!
TroopAlum12
Recap from Tacoma: The Alpine Scouts really started digging in and gaining a little ground last night, proving that they are beginning to get this show rolling in the direction they want it to. The Alpine Cadets joined the A corps for their debut performance last night, And threw down some pretty impressive numbers. The crowd loved it. Leon, director of Mile High Performing Arts, said: "A lot of people ask me if I'm concerned about the low scores we've started this season with. My answer always is: not in the slightest. There's many other corps out east we haven't gone up against yet. There's still choreography and musical tweaks to be added to the shows. There's still weeks and weeks for the corps to get better. After our next rehearsal day, we'll have a few surprises on the field that should boost our standings a little." Both the Alpine Scouts and Alpine Cadets move eastward into Boise, where they will put in some time rehearsing today. Tomorrow they will meet several corps they haven't seen yet in a large sweepstakes event, in what looks to be a very exciting day of drum corps. Back at the MHPA home base in Parker, Western Wind camp is nearing completion. The Div III corps, focused on music education, is made up of much younger members, and will compete in three smaller tours spread across the summer. They will head out to Utah in two days for some final rehearsal before joining up with the Alpine Scouts and Cadets to make their competitive debut in Logan.
