StuStu
quoted from the Cadets' thread: Have you heard the latest conspiracy theory going around...? GH with new black uniforms will complete his masterplan of turning Holy Name into the New Crossmen just like the corps he marched. Evidence "they" observe: -first moves corps from Garfield, NJ to his beloved PA. -moves all winter camps from Northern NJ to Greater Philadelphia -takes over Crossmen into YEA until it needs to be sold to Texas in order to survive. -moves traditional Northern NJ big shows to West Chester, PA, then Chester, PA. -has to settle for C2 playing Russian Christmas Music. -hints that he is replacing traditional maroon cadet-style with a black uni, same color he wore in Crossmen snare line.. Some may think this all a stretch, but do those DeMoulin boxes have Aussies or capes?
HAW
*This Promotion Is ONLY Available Online and is not valid for purchases made at The Cadet OK I'll play the game. Here's my guess based on this picture: black uni, black jacket with neon green stitching and ribbon thread (or whatever that is called - as in the traditional uniform), neon pink cumber bun, and get this, a neon pink stripe down the side of the pants with pink dinkles! hahaha Oh - and a black shako with a pink plume. TroopAlum12
The plot thickens: this morning, GH copied the original post from this thread and posted it on his Facebook, asking fans and alumni there for their opinions. He then posted a response to how the corps can change their look mid season and pay for it, and said "these new uniforms will only be used for 7 performances" before being passed to C2 next season. I think it's confirmed at this point. SOMETHING is happening with the corps uniforms. Edited July 24, 2015 by TroopAlum12
TroopAlum12
Here, I got on a real computer so I could copy and paste the entire post, there's a lot of stuff in there. Fro George Hopkins on Facebook: How Can the Cadets Pull off This New Look and Not Go Broke? From George Hopkins ; CEO, Youth Education in the Arts When looking at the Cadets, and considering their place in the world, it is worth noting that are part of a larger organization. Youth Education in the Art, a 501 © 3, is indeed, an outgrowth of the Cadets, but there is so much more. Programs include USBands --- 750 participating bands and 150 eventsUSBands Concert Program --- 10 concert band events in high profile venues in 2015US Bands Indoor Percussion and Guard – About 100 participating unitsUS Bands Choral Program – coming in 2016 The CadetsCadets 2 (All age drum corps)Cadets Winter PercussionCadets Winter GuardDesignated HittersMusic is Cool Clinics The Allentown Urban Arts Center including XCAPE, a free dance program for 250 young people in the city of Allentown In all, we have direct contact with 800 young adults and indirect contact with approximately 80,000 high school and college students Staffing and Budget The total budget for YEA! is over $6 M dollars. We expect to be a $10 M dollar Company in 2018 Staffing can be as many a 28, including interns. Our busiest time of the year is the Fall; far and away the busiest time of the year. In fact, no time off or no vacations are allowed from September 15 to November 15. Why is this important? Well, as you will see below, we have numerous partnerships. These partners allow us to do what we do. After all, we invest $75,000 a year into XCAPE, $80,000 a year into C2, $25K into the Indoor Percussion Program and about $40K into education programs we provide in cooperation with the city of Allentown Schools. And NONE of this would be possible without assistance. So, lets look at the cost of a full change to the corps’ look, which rumor has it is occurring, and what exactly such would cost compared to a normal year of excitement and cost. To know drum corps is to know that the biggest expenses are ➢ Transportation – Buses, Trucks, Vans and other vehicles➢ Food➢ Staffing – Teachers, Drivers, Admin But what about this new look ?? What the hell is wrong with Hopkins? Did he win the lottery? Or is he simply a lunatic? New Flags – the Cadets get two sets of flags every year, for as long as I can remember. There are agreements with Dance Sophisticates and Field and Floor FX , so the cost in comparison to a normal year is ZERO. New Guard Shoes – the Cadets Guard, like all I imagine go through two sets of shoes per year. Thanks to Dance Sophisticates we receive a fair price and the cost, compared to most any year is ZERO The Change in the Back-drops - We would normally have one set of backdrops. The additional cost with discount from Field and Floor FX is about $4,000 The Cadets Shoes ---We usually need about a set and a half per years. Thanks to the generosity and the partnership with Up-Front Footwear, there is no additional cost to this effort for 2015 And the Corps Uniforms -- Steve Trull at DeMoulin has been a saint for the last years. From the craziness of 2011, to the launch of Cadets2 DeMoulin has made it possible for us to try to enhance the production value of the Cadets. The Cummerbunds in 2014, the two uniforms in 2011, the Change to All Cream in 2012 – they are life savers!!!!! So … we have two options this year. And do know, the Color change for the Cadets will last for 7 performances only. The uniforms, used for these 7 shows will: a) Be passed to C2, who have NEVER has their own set of Uniforms. They will last 5 years, at least, as C2 only performs on weekends. When the cost isspread over 5 years, the total cost to YEA! is probably $6000 b) BE SOLD, for more than we paid for the set of Uniforms. The income will go to replenishing uniforms for Cadets and C2 Note also, we have French horns this year – the cost is $25,000 --- seven of the 14 are sold, all will be sold, and this venture will end up costing us nothing. So, what’s this all cost? For 2015 … $10,000 tops! Less than the props for 2014, less than the props for 2013, less than the investment in 2011, less than the investment in 2005 and 2006 AND---We take care of some needs we have with our All age drum Corps Folks … Youth Education in the Arts and the Cadets are fortunate … very fortunate !!!! We have partnerships with great companies but what one has to understand is that the Cadets are ONE Program. YAMAMA has a deal with YEA! ; Vic Firth has a deal with YEA!, and so do many other companies. Why? Well, these companies are selling products, YEA! only makes exclusive arrangements and anything we promote, we use. We help companies increase their market share and they assist us in making a difference in the lives of young people. It works. It is not quite as lucrative as a NIKE Deal, but the synergy of the relationships we have built over many years, can be of great assistance at a time like this. To Close, Youth Education in the Arts exists because of a great donor, fan and alumni base, great partners, a dedicated office team who work hours and hours to manage events, sell merchandise, raise money, and spread the word of all we do, and all we will continue to do. On the docket …➢ an office move➢ the addition of a Percussion Center➢ Choral programs (as noted above) And much more And as for the Cadets … This is a great year. All years are great but the chance to do this program and to see the performers perform at the highest of levels … it’s been a joy. A true joy!!! And Neon, and Black, and tarps, and dows and hoops … it’s all part of trying to get to that always elusive 10.0 Want to know what the show is really about? It’s a life lesson. It’s a life lesson we teach at the Cadets. Every day we wake up and go into the world looking to create perfection – a 10.And each night, we go to sleep knowing that we fell short for perfection is not possible. Ever.AND YET, as human beings devoted to the cause of excellence we wake the next morning and we try again We never give up.We never stop.We just keep working Be spectacularly great at what you do. Wear your passion on your sleeve and hold your heart in the palm of your hand. And work hard. Really hard.Robin S. Sharma Enjoy the Cadets this weekend. They are going to be something special!!!! Oh …You want to see what it all looks like? You need to have tickets to the Tour of Champions Event in Chester, PA on July 30thAnd remember, there is only one … first time for anything. Join us. HAW
It'll be cool to view Atlanta as their last "big" show with the current look and then Allentown and Indy with the new (temporary) look!
seen-it-all
Well, based on GH's response, I'd say there's nothing to talk about because there is no uniform change coming. I guess it was a black cat coming out of a black bag.
fahox
the "uniform" has change multiple times in the last 15 years. there now exists an entire collection, in a variety of colors, of uniforms, (no pants with stripes) to be used as desired. none have been sold, all are on one of the corps or in storage waiting for their next unveiling. the only people left who care are the alumni, (maybe a few long time fans) and unfortunately, their soul was sold to the devil 30 some odd years ago. interestingly enough, if you marched in 2011 and 2012, ( i think those are the correct years) you never wore the traditional uniform. it is his corps and he can do what he likes. no one even tries to challenge him anymore. every year or so, a few alumni get rattled and make an attempt to rally the troops in defense of whatever tradition he has tossed aside that year, but it always dies down in a matter of a few hours. fortunately for him, some of the alumni are die hards and will support him for the sake of the kids, while telling each other how much they despise his leadership and speculate about the future or lack thereof of their corps in the event of his demise. and since he is very vocal about his plans to live to be 102, his demise is a good 40 years away... yeah, it's summer and gh and the cadets alumni are at odds again.
