barigirl78
Last year, David Byrne put together some concerts called "Contemporary Color" which combined Color Guard performances with live musicians. I saw it at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn. A documentary has been produced. I saw it premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last night. I don't know how many in the audience were already Color Guard fans. I know the ladies next to me in line were there just because of David Byrne and knew nothing of Color Guard. I do know some of the audience was familiar. Watching the film was a lot of fun. The film makers do a good job of mixing up how they will portray each performance and it cuts into what might be anonymous. After each performance, the people in the movie theater applauded as if they were there live. For the uninitiated, the activity comes across very, very well. I've see a few reviews of the film and they are decent. After the premiere the directors and Byrne came on for a Q&A. Five of the Guard members came on stage and were interviewed by Byrne. They also gave a demonstration for the audience. If you see this coming to your town, I highly recommend it. It might be on the festival circuit.
