JKT90
Madison lost themselves and have no idea who they are right now. 2017 will be remembered a long time.
Madcityscout
I would say a willful change of identity rather than a loss of identity.

I like the changes. They are doing what they need to do to evolve in an activity that is rapidly evolving. This year may not be a big success, but it sets them up for a better future IMO.
Madcityscout
Totally agree henry7184. The old Madison identity just would not be competitive in today's DCI in my opinion as well.

HockeyDad
I think Scouts should form their own circuit whose goals are accessibility and entertainment excellence. Let the WGI led navel gazers have at it and drift away into bizarro land. Much rather that than Scouts having to turn into another one of those groups just to make the top twelve.
Narrow
I know people who auditioned for Madison just because they wanted to march a show like 2013, 2015. That's what people liked about Madison. I disagree greatly that this type of change was necessary. They're just throwing their identity away, just for the sake of change. Which isn't necessarily always bad, but it made Madison unique and they were still competitive those years. Did they need to modernize? Sure. But they should've looked at corps like the Bluecoats for certain elements, like take some jazzy, more modern, fun music with some great drill and make use of electronics/props in effective ways. That would've still felt like Madison, and it would attract a lot more talent. Their biggest problem in my eyes was needing a more consistent design team willing to innovate a little more. Change is good, I just don't think this was the type of change Madison needed in my opinion. Edited July 19, 2017 by Narrow
Madcityscout
Their show is a modern show with great music I think.

mjoakes
I like the show this year. And I like the look. It could be better, too. But then I thought 2016 ought to have been much better. For me, the Madison issue is one of getting genuinely top level drill and music - show design, obviously. That influences everything. With a great show, we probably wouldn't be so obsessed with the look and identity issues. As much as I appreciate what's going on right now, the whole corps package just isn't there yet.
