Nothing about BD's announcement or music bothers me in the least, but...

Just because something is new, or old, doesn't make it good.

Also, BD's show includes music that is 117 years old.

Although I can't help wondering if that one is there an an homage to Drumline!

I never said something new makes it good. Lol. I'm just saying if you don't like the current style, maybe stick to the legacy dvds because it's not like things are going to start to retract. Our sport is about constantly moving forward, pushing boundaries, an continuing the artistic expression that is drum corps. Moving backwards would only hinder the sport.

That's what I was getting at. Lol. My only issue is:

1. I'm simply not a fan of the style the Blue Devils are going after these days. Doesn't mean it's good or bad, I'm just not a fan.

2. This show seems a bit too similar to Winged Victory, just with more color.

Should be interesting this year.

Based on the Cali corps program announcements, it seems that the lessons learned from the last few years are -

- Visually, Bluecoats showed you can move to dance/athletic wear and the audience and judges seem ok with it.

- Musically, Crown has proven everyone must put a British brass band piece in their program now?

I look forward to hearing that musical program on the field.

Fine if you like new agey (I'm not a fan), but there is such thing as bad art, contrary to what post modern intellectual drum corps fans will tell you.  If there's bad art, there's bad (just not different) drum corps show themes ... and again, it seems some of the announced show themes are a little more esoteric, new agey style over substance.   But it's early!  Obviously, I need to give them a chance.  I grant you that.

What's interesting is that it seems like both Vanguard and BD have very similar "reinventing self" shows, but honestly, I think Vanguards is much better from the very little information I have. BD's sounds to me like a vague concept show that I feel like has been done a lot by high school bands and winter guards. Meanwhile, Vanguard put an interesting twist where they are tying it to a concrete symbol they can draw from, while still giving them room for layering the concept.

granted, this is based off of a 2 paragraph blurb by each corps, so I'm making a lot of leaps.
