LabMaster
Is Pioneer the only current DCI corps that owns its own rehearsal site, which is named "Pioneerland"?Seriously, what is they own? A building, football field? Parking lot? Not sure if BD owns Mars. But they have been there forever. Other corps own or maybe lease their own buildings. BDCorno
Is Pioneer the only current DCI corps that owns its own rehearsal site, which is named "Pioneerland"? No. Blue Devils have their practice field(s), "Mars", located next to athletic fields north of Concord. They've been practicing there since 1976, during which time they've done some improvements to the facility, including lights, bleachers, enclosed GE box, fencing, sprinklers and more. When we first rehearsed there, it was pretty treacherous. Uneven field with a few ankle-breakers, cracks, and sand fleas that would bite any unexposed skin below the six inch mark. Add to that, scorching daytime temps ranging from the 90s into the low 100s (with low humidity), followed by evening temperatures in the mid 50s, high humidity and persistent strong breezes. Was always nice to get sunburned all day and windburned all night. You literally had to bring a change of clothes with you on the 10-10 rehearsals. Despite all the fun aspects of the facility, I believe it was and still is an advantageous place to rehearse. Dealing with the field conditions and the weather extremes makes almost anything on tour seem tame.
MikeZ
Glassman had G-West. I always assumed they owned that. I also learned drill at the Star of Indiana facility in IN. I believe it was a converted elementary school. Z
BDCorno
Seriously, what is they own? A building, football field? Parking lot? Not sure if BD owns Mars. But they have been there forever. Other corps own or maybe lease their own buildings. Not even sure it's outright ownership, but if it isn't, it's on a very long-term lease. We're now up to two full fields (one for BDA, one for BDB), GE box, storage areas, bleachers, restrooms, sprinklers, perimeter fencing, etc. Much of the infrastructure needs work, and we are embarking on some substantial upgrades/refurbishing. Alumni calls for a beer garden with patio overlooking the field, have gone unheeded. Sigh. Loved the original GE box...a piece of plywood perched on top of four telephone poles, no handrails, and staff had to climb the metal linesman cleats to get up there. Hazardous as hell. BRASSO
Theres a rumor going around that the Boston Crusaders mgt is poised to purchase Gillette Stadium from N.E. Patriots owner Bob Kraft for its N.E. preseason camp practices. I don't believe the rumor however. The Boston Crusaders will need at least 2 more years to be in any financial position to do this.... and 3 years at least to be in any position to purchase the N.E. Patriots from the Krafts Family..
