N.E. Brigand
I saw this just this past weekend at a band show Hmm. Our paths may have crossed. PM coming. But turning to the O.P.'s question, if you're looking less for technical specifics and more to inspire your kids, look for video from: --a BOA show, where the show starts four minutes (I think it is) after the band is allowed to move onto the space, whether or not they're ready; or --a Japanese high school show, where the allowed set-up time is something like one minute, admittedly in a much smaller space. (And sans electronics?) In either case, the kids often are sprinting that equipment into position.
scouttimp
John's Rules for Effective Front Ensemble Logistics: 1. Everything rolls. Everything (and I mean *everything*) is mounted to a keyboard that rolls, a rack that rolls, or on a cart that rolls. No exceptions. 2. Avoid at all costs the use of a trailer pulled by a golf cart, gator, or atv. If the instrument isn't adhering to Rule #1 above, you don't need it. (Exception: Your vehicle pulls a "train" of carts, adhering to Rule #1). 3. Build or buy custom carts for drum sets, tympani, and other large instruments. The cart should require no additional movement or set-up of those instruments. Roll on, perform, roll off. 4. Building can be a lot cheaper than buying. Make friends with your school's shop teacher. 5. Parents (and other students) should be utilized for help, but the entire pit should be self-sufficient. Amen! Liahona
Does anyone know of or have a video of someone's pit moving their equipment? Preferably a mass move from one practice location to another....like getting onto to field for ensemble? We'd like a visual reference for our HS section...
