Horn Carriage

Recommended Posts

I know this seems like an odd topic, but how do different corps approach horn carriage? I've seen corps like Phantom and BD put their left hand over their right hand, and some don't. I've also seen corps (like Crown) go from left over right to just right hand on the valves. What motivates the staff to do this?

Side note, if anybody could point me in the direction of a video explaining Phantom's horn carriage, thet'd be great. I can hold it, but i can't snap it up in one count as fast or as nicely as Phantom does it.

Welp, Phantom has an entire youtube channel.  Its the Phantom Regiment visual staff if I remember correctly, they explain it all.

They do have a channel, but they deleted all of their videos for some reason.

Personal perspective-- right over left is a lot more comfortable and allows you as a performer to transfer the weight from the left to the right hand when you come down from playing position. Keeps your arms happier. It's harder to get a one count snap that way though-- you need a "turn-set" where your arm is moving during the set count, whereas your arms are already in the proper position on the snap with hand-in-horn.

Really!?  Did they have a staff change?  Some corps have a visual packet, maybe thats why they took it down.  If you buy the audition packets maybe its detailed in there?  EI think they took down the videos to see how well you retain the techniques they teach at camp.  I would suggest emailing staff and/or looking at former auditions.  They still have a video up of their vis block

DB,

I'm not sure how old that PR video is given Dean Patterson is shown halfway through and David Warren is shown at the end. Since you know him contact him or current ('17) horn sgt. Peter Bates who is on Twitter. Girl wearing Tate Herrmann shirt is not Regt.'s famed soloist but maybe someone who went to her camp. Tate teched Cavaliers for awhile.

Sounded odd hearing the Regt. count off 1-2-1 as if a h.s. marching band. But then again, it was a rookie camp of ba..... Could "Eyes with Pride" be next?

Good luck.

A few thousand push-ups never hurt anyone...
