Florida Sun Posted March 31, 2017 Share Posted March 31, 2017 Going back in time the Queensmen won the New York State tile 6 yrs in a row 1955 throught 61 ,And the frist New York corps to beat both the Garfield Cadets and the Blessed Sac Golden Knights . St Catherine's Queensmen: One of my all time fave junior drum corps. As the album (Brass by Night ) says, they did the most to break the stranglehold the North Jersey corps had on area competion with their wins over Blessed Sacrament and the Garfield Cadets. Billy Hightower was their great baritone solist in "Tin Roof Bues", and went to to the Sunrisers in 1963 with a solo in "Sing Sing Sing". Great memories. Elphaba All those Queensmen members who joined the Long Island Sunrisers for the 1963 season... Bill Hightower, Frank Dorritie, the Sasso brothers, Billy Cobham, among others. That changed history for Sun. I still wonder if Sun would have ever moved up the ranks in the senior corps world without that influx of talent. The members who joined the Sunrisers a few years later from the Carver Gay Blades after Carver disbanded... Gene Bennett, Alfred "Uncle Nick" Nichols, etc... also provided another big boost for Sun. Rocketman Posted June 14, 2017 Share Posted June 14, 2017 Ok, since I have NO LIFE! I decided to look at Illinois and the two remaining DCI corps, Cavaliers and Regiment. Using what contests where available, we did head-to-head match-ups to determine the winner. Pre DCI, it was all Cavaliers 16-0. Things got closer after 71 however, after the first meeting in '76 (taken by the Cavaliers), the Regiment went on a run the rest of that season and didn't lose to them again until the first meeting in 1985. That's almost 9 years (76-84) amassing a 119-1 head-to-head record. But the reality is, from 1962 to 2016, the Cavaliers hold the head-to-head record 341-256.
