Ha, I had this conversation last night. Probably not Finals, but I'm still a proponent of a Vegas regional or even just a major show in our new indoor stadium.

Ya, the summer heat is extraordinary, but it's totally doable with air conditioning. Hell, we literally host the world's largest party, a 3-day outdoor festival, in the middle of June.

Also I have a hookup on a completely indoor, air conditioned facility with a generally high summer vacancy that could easily fit a dozen or more corps with indoor practice areas. If this ever happen and gets off the ground, sign me up to help coordinate housing/rehearsal space.

Nope. If finals can be in Vegas as a theory then it should be in Santa Clara at Levi's Stadium. Or the new LA Rams stadium. Vegas in August is HOT. Like an oven. It's isolated. Not that many housing for tons of corps to practice.

I admire your logical thinking because you live in Las Vegas. Why would there be any regional show there? Maybe a show passing though for west corps heading east. A regional is another thing. Plus I doubt the new owners are looking at DCI to fill their new stadium. I see monster truck shows or concerts to try and pack them in. I don't see a drum corp event as a big draw.

I'm not saying Finals should or shouldn't be here, but we're the 6th largest school district in the country, with more than 50 high schools and 60 middle schools. That's not enough housing for tons of corps to practice?

You should organize this then if you are so certain this would work. Good luck.

Ah, this goes back to my feelings that the DCI tour should head out West later in the season a bit more. But even if you were to just make it a corps-passing-through show, it still makes sense as an ideal venue.

As for drum corps not being a big draw, there's already drum corps shows taking place at the Falcon's stadium, the Giants/Jets' stadium, the Colts' stadium (obviously) and off/on at the Patriot's stadium. Meanwhile one of the primary concerns/discussions in Las Vegas right now is what to use the stadium for during the other 46 weeks of the year where there isn't a home NFL game. Obviously a bigger production would bump a drum corps show, but if there's a vacant weekend, why not?

Also for the sake of discussion of Finals (again, not advocating, but defending the notion as not ridiculous none-the-less), we literally have more hotel rooms than any other city in the nation, more than 75% of which are located exactly one street over from the stadium's proposed location. Meanwhile Indy's occupancy sells out months in advance every year, which also hinders/is hindered by the GenCon crowd which takes place in the same location within one week of Finals annually.

With those insights, I'm confused why anyone would think this Raiders stadium wouldn't be a viable option for a show.

Good luck. I really admire your positive thinking. Maybe a wish will come true some day.

I feel like you're trying to place me in a group I didn't say I was in. I'm not advocating that any of these things directly happen; just defending the notion that they're possible. It was specifically said that this wouldn't be a draw and that Las Vegas didn't have the capacity to handle such an event. I'm purely presenting data that says otherwise. People get the wrong idea about my home often, and it bothers me when assumptions prevail over publicly-available research data.

I should also mention that Levi's stadium is an awesome stadium and should definitely be in consideration of drum corps shows, Finals included if it were to ever move. I'd be curious too about the Ram's new stadium, though I really did enjoy the Rose Bowl.

So will one of the casinos give odds on the contest?

I need a few more people to die before I can go back to Vegas, j/k. I’m not a Vegas fan and would have no interest in going there even for a show and yes, I only know the tourist junk and not ‘the real Vegas’ so no offense

I recall they had some Vegas shows there not too long ago, they tried some new format to spice it up. Seems to me, that if it was that great a draw, they'd still be doing them

I have my doubts as to the local market, demand as a marching band show couldn't really compete against all the other stuff  but I did read about Vegas trying to buy culture, maybe if the city offset the lack of a market with a massive incentive package sponsoring a show

The problem with Levis Stadium is while the climate is great, a design flaw in the stadium causes people sitting in certain areas to roast.
