Based on the comments I chose a bad year to go to Finals, Save the Stars and Cavies. Off to see SCV...

To appreciate it required some advance knowledge on the source and its history.

I plan to just watch and enjoy and try not to get drug into explaining things online.  I tired explaining "The beautiful things that heaven bears" a million times when people said the end of Crown's Inferno was 'too light' in 2015 and learned my lesson there.

Between that and some of the commentary on the Cadet show...  I'm a bit concerned for DCI.

I hope corps don't start throwing out particular audience demographics in the name of competition again.  This is like the opposite of what that Cessario thread is about.

I want corps to have their own identity and style. I dont need to like every show. The problem is when every show is the same, its stale.

As I recall, at least some people who knew the jazz reworkings of Stravinsky upon which BD were drawing felt that BD was not doing justice to those works.

Sorry to hijack...

but the point in that other thread was that there was a challenge made to the drumcorps to put their identity on full display, but to engage the larger audience as a priority.  Corps have done well in this regard for a number of years now... It would be a shame to see that go.
