Thanks for that uplifting bright commentary.

Sorry no fluff pieces here :22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:  Heard so much hype about amazing shows and then you see them and it doesn't deliver. It's early and most groups just got the show all on the field and yet to develop so it can change in a week. Kind of left the theater thinking nothing was really sticking in my head besides Crown ballad (which we listened to the original in the car).  I am a horn player that did 5 years of WGI and teach a bunch of groups and to be honest those shows draw you in more now .

I'm just saying what's amusing in June isn't always in August.

This.

See: BAC 2014, where on the opening night broadcast it was like, "whoa, they're going there, ok, let's see how this goes," and by August it was like, "yes, we get it, stop whining."

Honestly, with exception of Bloo who's reinvented themselves a few years back, what out there is so innovative? Cavies are coming back but with a gaudy vulgaresque feel (like scratching nails on a board with high powers electronics blasting as you do it, cheese galore with testosterone), Crown part 1 looks like every Crown show since 2008 and then there's that part 2. Haven't seen Cali corps but last night hardly was a showcase of innovation.  I feel Cadets show has demand, expansive visual, a great guard and bravo doing 3 uni changes in 11 min along with a demanding show and an 8 person choir. Maybe you should rethink the innovation card a bit.

I think you are stating my point.  Cadets are seeking things that nobody asked for... and that they didn't need to seek.  I agree with all of your assessments of the show on demand, etc.

I really think this comes down to the choice of theme and source material.  You know the discussion that I am having on this elsewhere.

My thoughts from last night:

Theatre 3/4 full and not to bad since I had a choice of going to at least 20 theatres within a 30 mile radius. Dropped the wife off at the MGM National Harbor casino so that she could donate to the local economy!!!!!

Crossmen: Loved the music, but the drill was not challenging at all. They will need to make some major changes in order to stay top 12.

Blue Stars: Actually pretty good. Once they clean the show, it should be one of their best ever.

Cadets: I thought it was the worst show of the night. The staging (except the last two minutes) was horrible throughout the show and the electronics were to loud. Drum score should have been higher. There was WAY to much signing! Those uniforms just did not do it for me and most of the audience at the theatre.

Cavaliers: Fast-paced, fun and should get better during the season.

Crown: "Refreshed" and a very nice stab at GH (and well deserved by Jeff). This show can be great once they get rid of the singing. Horn line and guard great as usual.

Blue Coats: Nice show and visual package! This show has a lot of great moments and should compete again. Will they be wearing the helmets this year???

This was a very exciting show and I can't wait until I see them all live. One of my biggest complaints is that the electronics are ruining nice horn and drum parts as well as a lot of the singing, but it is early and hopefully, we will see the changes as the season progresses.

DCI is in for another fantastic season as well.

What happened with this "GH stab" before Crown took the field?  What did Jeff actually say?  Everyone keeps talking about talking about it on here but nobody will answer.  Some of us couldn't attend the premiere.

The show is not finished yet and they're working on another visual element to feature the vocalist. Plus they still have a preshow and about a minute to add ok to the end.

Unless they are giving the vocalist a new voice, I don't see any of that changing anything.

Basically said how nice it was to be on a team that actually communicates and works well together

If I want to hear a singer backed up by drums and brass, I'll go see Chicago.

I wonder how many people realize that "hitting 9000 on the cheese scale" is entirely the point of the production.

This. Like Propaganda, the messaging seems to be "Following this line of historical development leads to absurdity."  Only they're  going after hypermasculiity instead hypercommercialism.  They should add a tag where a hyper masc guard sashays with a feather fan to cool off the boys at the end.  Bring the thing all the way around until it's at it's opposite
