Hmm. You mentioned food up that way. The best place I have personally found to eat up that way is in Nanticoke kind of a tad off the beaten path.

There are other references if you do a web search. Make time for it if you go and have the time to take your time. I enjoyed it very much the two times I've been there.

The Mrs. & I will be overnighting nearby after the show instead of driving back to Connecticut, so I did some looking around. Seems Smiler's is a great local joint, about three miles from the stadium, literally on the same road. Of course, what's most important to us is they're open late enough to get a nightcap after packing up souvies :guinesssmilie: .

What was the diner we went to last year after the show?  Pretty good late-night stuff there.

I have two questions that I'm sure someone can answer. #1 If the American Legion is co-sponsoring this show, will the winner be the American Legion National champs?  #2 If the answer to #1 is yes, does the American Legion require the corps to have an honor guard?  In advance - thanks

(Edited a bit for clarity)

Don't quote me chapter and verse here...LOL... but no, I don't think this is the American Legion National Championship show.  It hasn't been since Doc Sebastianelli passed away several years ago.

I think it's the PA American Legion involved with this show, not the national AL. There is no Orange Flag... signifying an AL national champion... given to the winner. Unless that's changed for this year, I don't know.

And I don't know about the honor guard requirement thing for this year, regardless of whether this is a title show or not.

I do know that when Doc ran the Scranton show... which has been called "Parade of Champions" for decades, not a recent development... corps were required to have an honor guard even in the years when the show was not the AL national championship... which was the case for many years. (The American Legion national championship... held through the 1980 season at various venues around the country... was a separate event from Parade of Champions in Scranton.)

Doc, with the blessing of the national American Legion, designated Parade of Champions as the AL title show in 1997, ending the hiatus for the title event. That was also the year he brought me on as the show's announcer. I'm 100 percent sure those two items are unrelated.

And the second set of years the DCA championship was held in Scranton... 2002-2005... that show was both the DCA title show and the AL title show. Believe me, that made for several "adventures in PA announcing" when it came to the awards ceremony.  :innocent:  A story best left untold on a public site such as this. LOL.
