Dose a Cancelled show hurt a Corps?

Recommended Posts

Question, when you are a Corps fighting to climb the rankings and keep up pace with the others around you, especially for top 4 or 5 or 17 - 12 trying to make a finals spot, does the lack of a show due to weather, and thus the absence of a score from that cancelled show, hurt in the long run when your competitors performed and got an updated score and your Corps didn't?

It hurts in that you lose an extra chance to get constructive criticism from judges and one less rehearsal run before finals.

And that doesn't even mention the lost money from souvenir sales and the at-the-event ticket sales

I agree with all of this.

I don't think it hurts competitive placement...

The last year my son marched, 2014, was an especially rainy one, at least for his corps and the route they were on.  Rehearsals came to screeching halts, equipment had to be rescued on the double, and several shows were cancelled.  It does hurt the morale of the corps a bit, especially when it happens frequently.  This isn't even taking into account the affect it might have on scoring.

I doubt that just a few cancellations would hurt much though.

 No.

When Corps are judged at Quarters, then Semi's, the judges don't care about any cancelled shows that season, nor where an internet forum had the Corps ranked at the time of the show cancellation.

You can argue it hurts the corps from a standpoint of getting feedback from judges, but not getting a score that night is no big deal.

Over the long haul weather hurts things like rehearsals more so than shows. A cancelled show hurts the show sponsor (which could be a corps). They lose money. The performing corps get hurt if they run into a particular bad series of weather days where rehearsals are cut short or taken inside.

DCI needs Arizona weather. :)

PP 1 &2 YES

PP 3  NO!!!!!

Average Temperatures for Tucson
Month Low High

Jun 68.0°F   100.2°F
Jul 73.4°F   99.6°F

No way not even if you like your shows park & bark. Dry heat just means you don't know you're being killed by skin cancer and dehydration unless your skin is leather.

World Championships in Phoenix!

(Although it might not be fun to rehearse in for 3 days)

Depends.   If it's the last meeting before Indy and a you expect to finally leap over another corps in placement, it could potentially put you in the hole.     I do think that placement/ranking does have an impact on 1 show to the next, even though I believe judges do an incredible job, and have the undaunting task of getting things right.
