Which is totally up to DCI. I don't think BC will change or care either way, but to me this show is the most demanding show on the marching members, and it's not even close, and it is obviously the most well received show by crowds This is how I feel right now: A new style / approach / gimmick, whatever you want to call it, is good for a championship. The hard part is the next X years, where the conservative nature of this community will naturally try to reign them back in. Bloo has two main choices. It can 1) not give a #### about scores, and focus on producing the very best Blast! style show on a football field, or 2) revert back and design more for the sheets. I'm guessing it will be a mixture of both, but mostly #1. Bloo culture has never placed a huge importance on scoring. They are more concerned about making sure each member and the group as a whole is being the best version of themselves they can be. Everything comes after that. As far as judging, I don't think judges are necessarily saying "Blast! is not DCI". I think what you are seeing (and going to see in the next decade) is a judging shift towards this new style, as long as the crowds keep reacting this way. It won't be a linear path. Both sides will tug and pull along the way, which means some years it's en vogue, and some years it's not. I'm reminded of a famous quote that I feel is somewhat relevant: "A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."

I appreciate this perspective. There are moments of this show that blow me away. My 2 cents is that Bloo isn't winning at this point because it's just not the most complete or clean show on the field, not because of the underlying nature of the activity. Fortunes will almost certainly change-- I mean just last season Crown beat Bloo two days before San Antonio. This corps is not out and they've got a great vehicle. Time to clean! Feel free to wax philosophical, but please return to your regularly scheduled HYPE. This corps is amazing.

I think you are "overanalyzing" it a bit after having lost 3 shows. Bloo could still win this year.

The activity has been heading in the Blast! for the field (as others have called it) direction for quite some time now. It's been a long progression. If anything, the judging community finds it appealing. Anyway, Bloo looks and sounds great and they still have a legitimate shot at gold. As they continue to clean, they'll be right back in one of the 1-3 spots.

One isn't better than the other, but one seems much easier to "clean" in judging terms.

Last night was Bloo's first head-to-head with Crown in a while, and the 3rd with BD. The first win by BD over Bloo came on an especially poor run (by Bloo's standards), while the 2nd show had Bloo closing the gap to .7. Then, you have a TOC last night and a funky lineup order, the heat, humidity, and an odd time of the day for either one of these 2 corps to perform. Meanwhile, Crown just goes about its business, performs late in the show as they are accustomed to doing, (following a much weaker opponent), enjoys the lights, and more favorable weather conditions. Not to mention a crowd that was primed to see the last gold medal contender of the night. Combine all of that with numbers management by the judges, and you've got some rather "interesting" results. I enjoyed the event, but I'm not ready to buy into the whole placement thing at this point. Let's get a first, real, regional under our belts on Saturday and see where they stand. Even then, you know things will change. That's the way it's been for the last few years. One show means beans to the next. One to Four, it's WAY too close to call. BD could win the gold or not medal at all. Same could be said for SCV, Crown, and Bloo. One will be out, all 4 can win.
