Triple Forte
So folks, honest question here. How is vocals judged (Be it narration or singing)? What part of the sheets cover it and more importantly which judge(s) is responsible for evaluating it?

N.E. Brigand
Are music analysis judges also responsible for any electronic instruments (synthesizers, electric guitars, etc.) and are they as technique-specific about those instruments and voice as brass and percussion judges are concerning the instruments in their purview? luv4corps
Great idea for a thread. I have often wondered this myself.
Jim Schehr
I don't understand what is being judged, let alone by what criteria.

According to this article, both of the Analysis captions have to do with the composition, orchestration, and overall flow of either the visual package (Visual Analysis) or the music book (Music Analysis). So yes, I would assume that amplification and electronics, if they are synchronized with what's going on musically, would be judged as part of MA.
ouooga
Percussion judge judges percussion. Brass judge judges brass. Vocal judge judges vocals. Seems pretty simple. ....wait.

Yes, the music analysis judge is responsible for evaluating any (and all) music/audio activity by the corps. They are interested in how the different elements are blended/coordinated and how they contribute to the overall musical statement. They are interested in the general musical picture and are not necessarily experts in a given section/voice (like a Brass or Percussion judge would be). To make an analogy: 1) The analysis judge can be compared to a primary care doctor who is responsible for monitoring your overall health and well-being. While he/she may listen to your heart and lungs, the detailed evaluation of these systems is left to a specialist. 2) The performance Brass or Percussion judge is like a medical specialist, such as a cardiologist who focuses on the details of how your heart functions. 3) A general effect judge is like a stranger in a singles bar who is evaluating your look, style, and manner of interacting. They are concerned with whether you can hold their attention for at least 11 minutes.
