Cadets 2018

At one point, there were six corps under the YEA! umbrella.  No room to retain staff talent?  No one in the history of the activity has ever had more room than that!

At one point? As in ancient history?

YEA has had but a single DCI corps for more than a decade. Even when Crossmen were part of YEA, the scoundrels around here were squawking daily about preserving the separate identity and ... yes ... staff of Crossmen.

The point being: Cadets senior staff was as consistent as nearly any in the recent drum corps past. Last year was the exception, not the rule. In fact, if what's been reported here is is correct, most of the Cadets senior staff will be back again this year.

Mods,

Could this be one of those threads that would be split, between talk about Cadets and the talk about bandos, GH hate, and other peripheries?

 Thank you.

I agree this thread has gone off topic, but I would say a split thread is not the answer if it is going to be a spew more venom on George Hopkins. Critiques are one thing, especially where GH puts himself out there so much on social media, and in some cases the anger may be justified for those who love the Cadets and are concerned about what they see. When it comes to a board with more authority, business folks advising, and allowing the creative team to create, I agree, but some comments are pretty off base, and in a few cases I wonder if they know all that much about the director or corps.  This is not unique to the Cadets threat or DCP, it is what happens when we can comment anonymously on the Internet.

Yet, the Crossmen staff had a complete turnover anyway.

Point remains, if anyone has ever had places to nurture and retain staff, it would be the Cadets.  They still do today (Cadets2).

Just like DCP posters assert past scores having nothing to do with tomorrow's performance, past dislikes of Hopkins should not have anything to do with the current stance toward 2018 mms. If one is fair and not revengeful.

Some people can understand comments directed toward GH and/or his behaviors are not directed at mms.

You're not serious. Instead of joining staff at Crown or Bluecoats, they should aim their career instead at a DCA corps. No.

At best, thoughtless stupidity. At worst, more of the slanderous, negative double standard that permeates this thread and this board.

but that supposed umbrella was so short lived that most folks don't even remember it coming out of the umbrella stand.

There's a difference between reality which persists and something that exists only in one CEO's fantasy kingdom.

xandandl -

I believe the response from Fran Haring accurately describes the feelings of most DCP'ers  and addresses your concerns (highlighted above) about the 2018 mm's.

I don't know of anyone here... or anywhere... who is rooting for the Cadets to go under.

Some folks are rooting for a change in administration... which they feel will actually help the Cadets grow stronger.

Big difference between "hoping a corps folds" and "hoping a corps makes some changes."

Your derisive attitude towards the Cadets2 program (and DCA corps in general) is where the thoughtless negativity is found.

The three other organizations who run a second corps have all identified/developed/retained key staff by having them work with that second corps program.  Cadets2 presents a similar opportunity for the YEA! organization.  Nothing slanderous about that.
