Most music ed majors now taking a second certification/double major/additional minors in order to make them more marketable to school districts (reading, counselling, computer, school adm,, foreign language, etc.) I don't have statistics from DOEd. to link here but the anecdotal evidence is extremely strong. Only Texas and Southwest are ripe with jobs. Now look at what has happened in SE Texas. Plus student loan re-payment inevitability kicks in the moment one gets one's sheepskin. Performance majors face similar predicaments. Who wants to be a homeless performance major with a mega-size college loan debt?No wonder 24 year olds are moving back with Momma and Papa who have often downsized out of the old neighborhood.
