2017 Favorite "Moments"

Recommended Posts

Aiming for some that haven't been mentioned:

  • Troopers opening trumpet solo.
  • Vanguard's synchronized flags in the closer.
  • Madison's quickly disappearing fleur; look for it on high cam view.
  • Cavies massive rifle toss in the closer.

Oh, yes, SCV's massive synchronized flags at the end, shocking and awesome. In fact, I think I could list a half dozen more scenes in their show that had me mesmerized. Certainly their use of props was so smart, and truly helped tell their story. And they evolved the idea so effectively The subtlety and attention to detail of their design team is so amazing.

During the Little Green Men section of the show, one of the members would grab a microphone and tell a joke, usually one that involved innuendos. My personal favorite of these was something along the lines of "Alright Semifinals, how are we doing tonight? Ya know, I gotta be honest. Being a member of The Cavaliers and being around these guys means that I always see a ton of (sad trombone sounds)... Green."

Bahahahaha

"Moments" I experienced live (Massillon - in essence, my home show):

- How good Boston was

- Cadets' closer

- "Clowns" tag in SCV's closer

- How good the Massillon crowd is - enthusiastic for EVERY corps performance, they GET drum corps, and genuine applause for the victor even though it wasn't Bloo

1 video "moment" (that I really wish I had the opportunity to experience live):

- SCV Alumni corps performance, especially 1) the current corps members' enthusiasm and response to the show, and 2) the rimshot during "Clowns"...for those of us who experienced them performing "Clowns" live in a show it was the perfect emotional grab

will the Rosemont brotherhood be publishing the accumulated list of these "jokes" of the 2017 season or will they become part of the lore which must be memorized for initiations to become a true super duper Cavalier first order?

I liked a lot of BD's show.

The starting line opener took me back to my first days in corps doing 8s & 8s.

Hearing Jerry Seawright in the beginning and ending was truly emotional.

I played Legend, so the snare opening was very cool, and then 16 snares, wow!.

The tenor feature, front right, then the snares on stairs, and later the basses doing the split roll passage, all incredible.
