Troop broke out the check book for their 60th, cool

they have been ever so close...

It is all about recruitment if you don't have the members the best staff in the world can't do anything.  Troopers are trying to recruit in one of  the most competitive regions in the country.  I wish them well but I don't see them in the top 15 in 2018.  If I am a potential  member what is the message are they trying to send to me?   No one from a large section of the country will audition with them when there are so many other options available.  Holding auditions and camps in Texas was a mistake.

Is the talent so strong in TX that those who audition are hoping to make a top 8 corps?  There has to be other kids who will not be making a top 8 corps who might want to spend a year or two with Casper

I know alot of people who wanted to audition, but opted not to due to them hosting all auditions in Texas.

Recruiting in texas isn't a mistake. Its a large state with large metro areas with lots of good programs, with a range of talent. Not everyone will make top 8\12.

If done like some do, with remote camps,  they can be a decent fundraiser. Charge $100 a head, get a couple hundred kids to show up. Hopefully you find some good additions, even if they no one from that site makes it to everydays, you've gotten paid.

Troopers Texas camps is as much about the winter weather in Wyoming, the distance of a major airport (Denver is several hours on the interstate to Casper), the availability of major airports having multiple options for those flying in (one reason the Cadets are wintering in Texas {United and SW use the city as a hub} and welcoming school communities. Boston uses Tampa area for similar reasons.

Yeah, that makes sense as well. There's a reason Blue Stars did similar starting many years ago, moving camps first to MSP and then to Indianapolis.

?? This does not hold water.

If you happen to live in Texas, as many DCI members do (it is the 2nd most-populous state, after all, while Wyoming is 50th), having Troopers come to you seems to be a reason in favor of auditioning with them, not against it.

If you live in, say, Ohio, it's easier and cheaper to fly to Dallas than it is to fly to Casper or Cheyenne. It takes less time than it takes to fly to Denver and take the corps bus up to Cheyenne.

If you want to audition for any corps, you're going to have to get on a plane anyway, unless you happen to live within a reasonable drive of the camp location. Ain't nowhere in America that's within a reasonable drive of Casper, Wyoming. That has been the case since Jim Jones opened the doors.

Scouts announced their full brass team today. Dave Cooksey is coming back to the corps, as well as some that have been with the corps the past few years, and some new faces. Looks like a great team. I can't link the post due to firewalls as work, but check it out if you're interested.
