wolfgang
Any info on who may apply for either World or Open class status in 2018? Hopefully some of the Soundsport groups will get approved for Open. Edited September 14, 2017 by wolfgang
Beckham
I would be very surprised to see anyone make the jump to World this year. Doesn't really seem like the right time for any groups. I do agree that we will hopefully/probably see one or two SoundSport groups jump into Open though.

Their bio reads like they have made smart decisions since they started in 08. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_City_Drum_and_Bugle_Corps

I like that it opens up a new geographic region that hasn't been in World Class before.
mingusmonk
Does a move from Soundsport to Open require approval? (Other than just getting on the schedule of course)

I believe both Columbus Saints and a group from west Texas applied in 2017 but weren't approved.

As shown by both Legends and Pioneer this past summer, the problems that bereft Teal Sound and others mid tour can happen to any unit whether SoundSport, Open Class, International Class, or World Class. Even some G-7/8 are rumored to have financial problems and are living on the cusp. DCI is wary to adopt under its umbrella any unit that couldn't feed, house, or transport its MMs safely and totally. The problems Teal Sound of Jacksonville, Florida had mid-tour in Upper New York State haunt many in the administrative angle of the activity. Watching the current weather consequences in Jacksonville only reminds that due preparation for any and all emergencies is part of the job for any admin in drum corps no matter how well intentioned they are. BlueStainGlass
Wasn't it like 2 years ago Music City announced folding after finals and then came back? Sounds questionable on being World ready.
