while distance is an issue for many,  Rochester is my favorite,..............low cost, .............no competing interests as the city is largely vacant labor day weekend,......................... nice accomodating people everywhere, ........................ I am in town for drum corps so I have little interest in tourist attractions,................................. historic drum corps region, with ticket prices at the level they are, no matter where else you go, local, non-fans are unlikely to attend,.....................easy place to get around,..............

Syracuse... because of what Fran said.  And because my corps won both years:lle:.

Annapolis tops my list.  And I would say that even if I lived five states away, instead of an hour or less as I do.  The stadium is a major-league venue... and the city, and DC/Baltimore/Eastern Shore region,  are great for dining and sightseeing.

My sleeper pick for second: Syracuse.

I wonder if I am literally the only person who feels this way....LOL... but I thought the two Syracuse years were great ones.  IMO, the stadium and the OnCenter convention center were terrific venues for the field and I&E events. Plus, the Friday night parade and concert at the NYS fairgrounds were both great exposure for DCA.

And I seem to remember a big crowd for finals, in particular. Few, if any, empty seats.

... 'cept when the little black & white kitty showed up.  LOL

Oh man... remember that?

Thankfully that skunk was not wandering around the main seating area.

Voted Scranton due to georgraphy, but I think Syracuse may have been my favorite venue otherwise.  Up close and personal seating and the I and E venue was fantastic.

On the other hand, every year at Rochester I've occasionally heard other corps warming up in the distance, and that wasn't an issue for me at Annapolis.

Maybe armed Marines were patrolling the area in Annapolis?

I seem to remember you making a joke about Marines monitoring for people videorecording the shows.

  • 2 weeks later...

I wonder if Annapolis has made another bid since then. I know they had a conflict with a football game for the year after their 2 year gig. Was the attendance good ? did DCA have the wanted economic impact in the area?  Seems based on our very limited poll Annapolis should be vying to host again.
