The Boston Crusaders more than likely will not be without headgear, given they have a pre-show tradition where the entire corps proper taps the BAC morse code on their shakos. I don't think they'd get rid of their shakos if it meant giving up a long-standing tradition.

There is no pre-show Morse code tapping  "tradition" on shakos. There is with the honking on their car horns though.

And when it was started way back when, it was the first eight(?) notes of the "routine".  Check out 63-65.  Drove my wife crazy after 73 when I hit those notes on the car horn when I recognized a BAC!

I know you probably stated this tongue in cheek, but " 90's uniforms " might you be referring too, anyway ?. Throughout the DCI years, Corps have had pretty wide diversity of attire/ headgear, with very few of them being similar to one another... 1990's included. Personally, I think the 1970's were THE single most diverse decade for DCI Drum Corps styles of attire/ headgear. We have not quite seen such wide diversity of styles, and headgear since imo. DCI had attire/ headgear choices that were as dissimilar as that of Guardsmen, 27th, Bridgemen, Garfield Cadets, Hawthorne Muchachos, Les Chatelaines, Freelancers, Kilties, Sky Ryders, Boston Crusaders,, The Troopers, Bellevelle Black Knights,  Bluecoats, , Madison Scouts, Wausau Story,  De La Salle Oaklands,  Custers Brigade, General Butler Vagabonds, CMCC Warriors,  Racine Scouts,  Finleyville Crusaders, Phantom Regiment, SCV,  Blue Devils, Blue Stars, Blue Knights, Anaheim Kingsmen, Velvet Knights etc... and too many more thoroughly diverse attire/ headgear choices   made among the Corps to mention from this era . ( and none of their attire/ headgear choices had any bearing on their scores/ placements back then either.. lol)

Headgear was required in the VFW / AL era, and I suspect that carried over for at least a while in DCI.

Apparently not anymore.

True. For those interested in historical precedents, DCA ( not DCI ) was the first competitive circuit not to require headgear for on field competitor Corps too. Sometimes those requirements for  having some sort of headgear were suspended in DCI for weather related conditions. Now, there is no requirement in either circuit that Corps must utilize headgear in on field competition. As most here probably know too, front ensembles performers in both circuits have been without headgear in competition for many years. I suspect most Corps will continue with headgear for most of their performers well into the future however. Uniform Co's probably get very nervous with the chilling thought that lots of World Class/ Open Corps..... and scholastic marching bands...... might opt to go totally without headgear in future years.

Ok, it's not a uniform or costume, but I didn't see where else to post it: the next level of tarps. Props to the designer who makes the unit seem to disappear using this tarp.

Psst!  I agree.

But I know those WGI types and fabric/fashion designers read DCP too. Given the optical illusion, one can play with their minds.
